hey all,
i've just wired up a dual sub set up (2 x clarion subs, 300w RMS each) together with a soundstorm 4ch amp (which i believe is 4 x 110w RMS).
i have connected the positive wires and the negative wires from each sub together, and put them into the positive side of ch1 and the negative side of ch2.
does this mean i am not using all of the amp's available power? because it doesn't sound as good as 600w RMS total probably should IMHO.
i am fairly new to car audio, just wondering if anyone can give any advice as to how i should be wiring everything up.
cheers
No you're not using the amps full power. you've still left channels 3 and 4. What i suggest you do is connect the first sub's positive to channel 1 positive and the first sub's negative to channel 2 negative. likewise to the second sub to channels 3 and 4.
It should sound much better after doing that.
good luck,
My car audio:
CD tuner: Alpine CDA-9884E with Ipod interface
Front speakers: Alpine Type R SPR-17S 6.5 component speakers, powered by a avant-garde 23dxi 2 channel amplifier - 2x51 watt RMS
Rear speakers: pioneer coaxials connected to tuner
Subwoofer: Alpine Type R SWR-1222D 12" 2 ohm dual voice coil 500 watts RMS powered by a response precision 2x150 watts RMS 2 channel amp bridged to 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms
awesome thanks for your help mate..
i was just separating the wires now and i realised that i only have 1 set of rca plugs, which are plugged into the ch1/ch2 slots on the amp.. i assume this is a problem because after putting each sub into ch1/ch2 and ch3/ch4 there was no sound coming from them. is it now a matter of getting more rca plugs?

Sure is mate. Grab some of the sony ones from JB. 4 heads on each end. I got the longest ones which were 10 metres. Left myself alot of slack on the cable incase i wanted to move amps around or something.

Depends, i am running 2 amps, i have a 4RCA output, i run 2 sets to my split and rear speaker amp, two plugs on each end. So that's 4 plugs all up. One set into the FRONT LEFT / RIGHT in the head unit to the amp, the other set REAR LEFT / RIGHT into the amp. Then i linked the 2 amps together.
