Hi there again people's,
I have sold the BT1 and now own a VS Ute,, Have up graded the sound to the following!!
Pioneer 3950 CD Head unit
Pioneer TSC1625 splits in doors,
Pioneer 12 sub (in box, from bt1 boot) to be installed next to petrol tank.
Audio strada 400 watt 4 channel,bridgeable,hi low pass,Amp.
Now the problem is the sub only acts as a speaker (no doof doof) it is bridged on channel 1 & 2, the front splits are hooked to 3 & 4,
??? how do i get the doof doof?????
Should i run the 4 speakers (2 will go behind my big head) through the amp and add another amp for the sub???
im not to bright when it comes to cross over, converters hi low pass omh's and all that jazz......also now i seam to have noise (whining) when you start the engine!!
Could someone help...ive been playing with it for two weeks on and off and today went to JB HI FI (purchased gear there) to get the installer to have a look....not interested , to busy playing with his mates in the shop...was not impressed after forking out $$$$$$$$$ with no after sales service!!
I live in Newcastle if any recomendations who to go to........
ps im over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards
Gordon
Make sure that you have the Low Pass Filter (LPF) enabled on Ch 1&2, and the HPF on Ch 3&4. (I assume your amp would have switches and perhaps adjustments for the X-over frequency) If there is a frequency adjustment for the X-over point, set these at about the same for both LPF anf HPF.
The LPF allows only frequencies below your cross-over point to be fed through the amp, where the HPF only allows frequencies above the X-over. Is sounds like you might either have no filtering applied at all, or maybe you're high-passing for both pairs of channels.
Oh, by the way - JB/Stratho's are great to buy your gear from, just not so great for installation or advice of you're gonna DIY.
When it comes to the engine noise, the first thing you need to make sure of is that you have a good ground for your amp. It should be done with a good heavy piece of cable, properly terminated with a ring terminal, and bolted down VERY fimly to the chassis. Keep the ground wire as short as practical - run your ground nice and close to the amp. Use a bit of coarse sandpaper to remove any paint from the chassis before you bolt it down too, so you're making the contact to nice clean metal.
The main power feed cable from the battery - again it must be nicely terminated with a heavy duty ring terminal, and make sure it runs a fuse nice and close to the battery. (you don't want to set your ute on fire if you get a short!!) Keep the power feed cable as far as you possibly can from the RCA leads as well, you can end up with engine noise induced into the signal lines if they run near each other. (ie - power feed along one side, signal cables the other)
If that's all OK and you still have engine noise coming through, you might need a "hot line filter" - this should go in the main battery feed line, fairly close to the amp. You'll need one which can handle about 40 amps or more. (that's only in extreme cases though - usually the steps above will eliminate nasty alternator whines and such)
Good luck with it. Cheerz!![]()

Thanks for reply!
Ill try those things ...have that red 8 gauge monster cable with big gold fuse! in main supply to amp, only had small earth at this stage..(other one from sedan didnt reach the rear fire wall)
But will make new monster cable one!! As for the hi low thingys yes there both on and hi.....
The amp has knob type thingys on both sides to feed more or less power to sub and or speakers!! also has plugs on each side for 4-6 wires?? should i post a pic????
will try more things this weekend........will need to seperate the rca and monster cables...there close together

Ah, OK then! You need to change the switch on Ch 1&2 (the sub channels) to LOW pass filtering - then you'll get yer DOOF DOOF!!
Definitely run a thicker ground wire to the amp, that might make your noise problem go away by itself - if not, then get some separation between your power feed and signal cables.
The level adjustments on the channels are best set by ear once you get it all sorted. Basically you want to set these so that the head unit can have the full range of volume adjustment without driving the amp/speakers into distortion.
I think the plugs (4-6 wires) would be for "hi level" inputs, for when your head unit doesn't have RCA outputs. (you can run H/U speaker outputs straight to these, but I would never do it...) In your case, just leave them disconnected.
Cheerz mate, you'll get there...![]()

Before you go moving your cables about, a simple test is to disconnect the rca cables at the amp end and see if the noise remains. If the noise remains then obviously just rerouting the cables will not get rid of the noise.
