Am hooking up one of my old amps (Brainvibrations IDF-1000) and have run into a problem. As soon as i connect the remote and power cables, the subs just give off a constant loud vibration (like brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....) until you d/c the cables. Then once i plug the RCA's in, the brrrrrr continues with the exception that when I turn the volume down on the headunit, the loud noise decreases and vive-versa when i turn the volume up. This amp previously worked fine so I don't know what the problem is?? And its not the subs as i tried them with another amp and they worked fine. For the record, I'm using 2 x 10" Alpine type-r's.
Any ideas what the problem could be???....Is it time to turf the amp?
thanks,
nathan
Hmmmm - if it makes the noise when the inputs aren't connected, then I'd suggest that the amp is probably due for retirement....
However, just before you do - make absolutely sure that you have a good firm connection to ground, nice and close to the amp itself. (when I say "firm" I mean electrically as well as physically)
Your ground cable should be the same gauge as your main power feed, and have a good heavy ring terminal attached - preferably soldered - at the point where you're connecting it to the chassis. Also make sure you get good metal-to-metal contact, use a bit of heavy grit sandpaper to scrub away the paint at the ground point.
If it's still playing up, then I'd suggest it might be time for an update.
Cheerz, hope that helps.
