Default Problems installing double din headunit in VU

Hey guys, I bought a new JVC double din unit for the ute on Sunday. Everything is wired up just fine, but I have no idea how I am going to keep the bastard in the dash. It didn't come with a cage. Any ideas? At the moment it's just sitting in the dash and likes to slide around alot.

I am pretty sure I heard something about the VT/VX/VU dash are not a proper/standard double din.

Have you tried to contact the manufactuer to see if they make a cage...?

I was thinking about something like a chock of some sort under the unit... Obviously not something would create excess heat... Only problem would be the look of it...

Commodores with double DIN head units have non-standard dash openings. I have a mounting kit made by Schosche that supposedly fits VT/VX, so they should be available. I don't have a car to test fit it in though...

Where did you pick that up? I could only find mounting kits made by dna audio, and they were only for the VY/VZ.

At the moment I am just using double sided mounting tape to keep it in there. It looks pretty bad with the half inch gap under the unit.

It was actually sold to me as a double DIN VY kit on eBay, and the seller wouldn't give me a refund. It certainly doesn't fit VY or VZ, but having looked at some VT dashes, I wouldn't mind betting it's the right size for that model...but as I said, I have no way of checking.

Hmmm, do you still need a VY kit? I have one sitting right here on my desk still in the plastic if you're interested in trading?

Haha no thanks, I got one of the first Metra DDIN VY kits into the country when they were released...but PM me if you're interested in buying my kit (provided it fits, of course). Still brand new & in plastic, but opened for test fitting on my VY.
