Looking for some cheap stereo gear to replace the standard rubbish in my VN. Are the Chinese cheepies on ebay any good?

I really want a DVD player with an inbuilt screen and MP3 or ipod compatibility. How much do I need to spend for that. 4 speakers and an amp plus installation is all another question. Can it be done for under a grand?
Said it before, and i'll say it again for the millionth time. You get what you pay for. It will most likely be in good working order, but don't expect great things from it.
If you want decent sound, save up and spend decent money, then you will be happy with the results, instead of spending good money on cheap chinese CRAP, that will leave you angry with crap results. Have a look for example at Alpine in car DVD players. See the $1000+ price difference? There is a reason for that.
Also, take a look at the sellers feedback, 7 negative feedback comments left in the last year, and look at all the different items he or she has been selling: Pearl necklaces, microphones, dvd players, phone radios etc. Cheaply made chinese junk all in the name of making money. There is a huge market for this kind of crap, and it gets sold at reject shops and $2 shops.
Besides all that, something of that shape won't fit in the small space in a VN console. Most likely wouldn't meet the requirements for the kind of stereo you might want to eventually put in there either. In the way of pre outs etc. Says it has 2 AV outputs, but not how many audio pre outs.

If you shop around you could probably find one a little cheaper i suppose, but not for anything decent. Wait for a JB HI FI car audio sale, then go in there and they will drop the price further, they ALWAYS do, the advertised price is more than what they will actually sell it for, making the actual price they drop it to, the price they really want, so they can still make profit.
My cousin manages a JB HI FI and that's generally the way it goes she said. They always do that when i go in there for bits and pieces.
