Hi Guys,
Just a quick question that I've sort of found answers to aftr a search, but still not 100% sure of the answer.
Can I get a 6 CD headunit from another car and replace my 1 CD headunit without having to do anything else? Just slide out and slide in?
Also, will a headunit from a ute work in my sedan? I read somewhere as a side conversation something to do with the rear channels being disabled and you have to go to Holden to get them enabled.
What's to go?
Slide in and out, just need the pin number for the 6 stack that's all.
As far as i know the utes are no different from the sedans but i'm not 100% on that.
+1 for what Juzo said - although you're correct about the ute head units Wacky. Physically / electrically they are identical, but through software the ute systems have the rear channels and the Fader function disabled. However, a five minute job (or less) from your friendly Holden dealer will have these re-enabled and full 4 channel operation happening.
Must re-iterate that you need the PIN though! Get that before you pay your money - there are so many stories on this forum about fellas who have their new head unit, but then have to jump through hoops to get it working!
Cheerz.

Cheers guys....I guess it will be easier to just try and get a sedan headunit if I can - less hassles.
Oh, Phreddy, your audio kits, are they removable, as in if I were to get one and put it on the current headunit, could I relatively easily transfer it to the new one? I've read the guide on your site, and I'm suspecting soem parts can't be, like the socket that get's glued in place etc, but what about the rest?
Mate, if you can get a Ute unit at the right price, go for it! It seriously is such a simple job for Holden to re-code it - and if you go into the dealership and tell them something like "I need you to plug in your Tech2 and re-code my stereo from ute to sedan" (in other words, you point out to THEM that you know just how sijmple it is...), then they shouldn't charge too much. There are stories on here which tell of the Holden guys doing this for free, and others who've paid in excess of $50! I reckon it's worth a six-pack maybe....
Re the kits - yes they can be transferred, but as you noted the connector is difficult, because it's glued in place. Also, in the "second" unit, you would have to be VERY careful when you glue the connector on to make sure it's aligned exactly as it is in the first unit, otherwise the pins on the cradle might not line up correctly. This is do-able though, you just have to work accurately.
