I have a pair of Alpine SPS-130A coaxial 2-way speakers to mount in my doors - I have plenty of bass in the back - a sub and 6x9s running off a big amp, looking for some clarity up front.
The speakers are 150W peak and 30W rms. What sort of specs should I be looking for ?
Also looking for a good place to stash the amp if anyone has any good ideas.
ok I'm getting the picture. I had thought about getting some splits, my Bro basically reckons I have to spend upwards of $300 for splits worth having, but he gave me these alpine speakers - supposed to be quite good. I'll drop them in the doors without an amp and see how they go. I guess my budget would be $300 at the most for front speakers and amp which rules out splits, but with these speakers freebies I had some hopes of picking up my high end.
Hot-Rod : I have a kenwood 4 channel amp in the boot as it happens - running the 6x9s and 2 channels bridged running the sub - quite happy with that end of things.
I know you already have the 5 1/4" coaxials but you really would be better off with cheap 6" splits or coaxials. They'll give a better range of sound.
Most people in car audio know now that you should do it right the first time, it's just annoying not being happy with speakers and then having to replace them later
For $300, you could get 6" splits and a 2nd hand amp... I haven't heard the splits below but I know heaps of people who are happy with them. Here
well mate, they do but you would need to buy or make some mdf spacers.
They are cheap so its no big deal.
The speakers are 299 rrp. But i thought you said that you had a budget of 300.
So with the amp, If you list your equipment, we can revise it and try and see what i can come up with. (wont get much of an amp for 150 unless going second hand or **** cheap stuff)
Okay - so fitting the 6.5s I can do, but which way to go? I can get the jaycar splits StoneX suggested for $150 and a second hand amp, or spend the full $300 on Alpine splits with no amp - of course I could add an amp later...
I'm going to fit the 5.25s as they are free - that'll give me time to decide if I can convince myself to spend more money.
Hey Duke - are the type R splits the go? My brother reckons they are.
If you're willing to spend more now on speakers and then save more for an amp, go for more expensive speakers now... It'll save you changing speakers in future
Personally, I wouldn't go for Alpine's, but that's just my preference. If you are considering spending $300 on speakers, go listen to a few different sets in a few different stores in that price range. Don't just go to JB, Strathfield and Autobarn though... Go to a proper car audio store
