Someone just recently installed a full pioneer setup with 2 shallow-mount pioneer subwoofers in his VE SS-V. You should PM him. I think it was XCESSV or someone along those lines.
    My car audio:

CD tuner: Alpine CDA-9884E with Ipod interface
    Front speakers: Alpine Type R SPR-17S 6.5 component speakers, powered by a avant-garde 23dxi 2 channel amplifier - 2x51 watt RMS
Rear speakers: pioneer coaxials connected to tuner
Subwoofer: Alpine Type R SWR-1222D 12" 2 ohm dual voice coil 500 watts RMS powered by a response precision 2x150 watts RMS 2 channel amp bridged to 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms

They won't fit under a standard seat, like in a commodore or ute, etc. You might fit just the sub but not the box that it needs to be in to make sound

Hey mate i have recently installed a full size 12inch sub into a custom fibreglass box next to the fuel tank that ports into the whole that is behind the passenger seat. The system is good for 125 db+ depending on my settings, the sub cannot be seen, which gives passengers a nice suprise when i take them for a drive. In my opinion this is the best way to go, saves issues of cutting the rear firewall but i guess in your 3 seater this isnt really an option anyways, i also have a 4 channel amp mounted under the passenger seat.

The system has been in since december and havent had a problem with it yet. If your on a tighter budget you can make a mdf box that will fit there also. Definetly one of the best mods ive done to my car.

yeh it goes hard aye bboystyles, turns your passenger seat into a massage chair lol,
this way the sub is kept safe and protected, you can use your tray as normal whilst still getting the best sound

yeh i got some massive vibrations lol rear vision mirror isnt worth lookin at with it on lol whole cabin shakes ahaha, thinkin bout maybe dynamatting in round the compartment round the fuel tank and stuff, so theres not as much notable rattle on the outside lol. but the vibrations add to the feeling makes music apply not only to the hearing sense but also feeling the music , my subs is 1250w max output i think, then a 600 w 4 channel amp runnin the sub and the 2 220w pioneer 3 ways in the door then the pioneer deck to control it all. so far very happy with the setup, fair bit of money gone into it but well worth it, wbu bboystyles whats your setup

lol yer i hate the vibrations, sound sooo bad. i jus got 2 bits of dynamat nd put it on the bottom of the hole, like under the sub box. cut down a bit of the vibrations, but doesnt help having tools in the tray lol. i jus got a 12" 300RMS powerd buy a 750rms amp then 2 4" cadence speakers wit an alpine head. sounds pretty decent but im gonna upgrade the sub to a 12" Kicker solobaric lol

o ok sounds awesome, yeh like the rattling vibrations i want to get rid. so far mines pretty good as the trays empty and nothing rattles in the cab to much, props do what you did and chuck some dynamat in there next school holidays.

I even throught of placing a pair of speakers behind my head rests maybe some splits or even some smaller 4 inch ones. But that would be ages away got plenty of other things to spend my money on till then.

Benny Mckellar where are you located maybe some members could point you in the right direction in terms of audio shops

lol yeh i was thinking that, very close to the ears, was going to trial and error it, luckily that saves some time lol, imo for our utes all you need is a good pair of front speakers with the sub and make sure you have all your settings right and your set.

Good picks of the sub box setup, makes it a bit easier to see how to put a sub in my ute. Next project on the list now that the complete statesman dash and L3 cluster are in.
I have already installed a pair of speakers behind the head rests in a custom made box/shelf setup that are great, so long as you use them only as a fill in speaker (biased to the door speakers for most of the sound).
