Default Alpine Type R recommended enclosure

    Hey all,

I'm after the recommended enclosure specs for this subwoofer since i've lost my sheet containing every single specification about the sub. In your honest opinion, do you think it would be wise using a sealed enclosure or a ported enclosure? Also, would anyone happen to have the recommended "cubic feet" volume specification for the box as well? I've tried looking on the website and it doesn't have the listings on there.

I'm seriously thinking about making my own enclosure, so every bit of advice and guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    My car audio:

CD tuner: Alpine CDA-9884E with Ipod interface
    Front speakers: Alpine Type R SPR-17S 6.5 component speakers, powered by a avant-garde 23dxi 2 channel amplifier - 2x51 watt RMS
Rear speakers: pioneer coaxials connected to tuner
Subwoofer: Alpine Type R SWR-1222D 12" 2 ohm dual voice coil 500 watts RMS powered by a response precision 2x150 watts RMS 2 channel amp bridged to 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms

    Hey man,,

Got them here for you off the Alpine Website.
    http://www.alpine.com.au/downloads/typer_sub_specs.pdf

They recommend a sealed box 0.7 to 1.0 Cubic feet. Its 19.82 Liters to 28.3 Liters.

So its up to you. You could just do a normal rectangle box, that is 400mm X 400mm X 200mm and you would have an internal volume of 21.73 Liters, Perfect. (that is with a MDF thickness of 18mm)

post some pics and some designs, and i will help you out.

I would make your own enclosure, Its easy if you are good with your hands,

You going to use fiberglass so you can mold the box into a shape, and fit it in nicely into your boot Etc?

I made, a sealed box out of fiberglass, for a mates camry. Came up alright. that was to suit a 10inch type R.

In relation to sealed or ported. How skillful are you? And how much time do you have? Sealed easy, over all volumes can vary 20% in size with no audible diffrence, But ported have to be exact!

Let me know if you want some more info, or Help. (sorry about or last meeting with sub choice on the other thread)

Thanks for spending some time on making such a post haha. I'll mostly go with a sealed box because I'm not a big fan of big boomy bass and much prefer tight punchy bass. A sealed enclosure will do fine for me. Thanks for finding the specifications on the subwoofer, great help. The box I'm using at the moment is a Q-max ported enclosure and it's absolutely terrible. When i open up the boot, all i hear is port noise. A change from this would be nice.

Yeah well, take some photos mate, and some maximum dimensions, And we can get the planning underway.
