hey guys
last week i bought myself some new jl audio splits. and im going to install them this weekend.
so the question is. where is the best place to mount the tweeter.
so far i have 2 options.
1. in the factory position (up next to the dash)
2. on the air con vents in the door
and being jl's they come with both a flush mount and this like side mount.
anyone with any experience in where they have put theres would be great. i know i have to install the crossovers under the steering column and behind the glove box.
anyone with any tips on doing it for sound quality or anything.
im leaning towards not putting them on the air con vents as my car is nto insured and that would be an incentive for theives.
but i do like the look they have any help would be greatly appreciated.
I installed some DLS splits in my mates VS for him a while ago, I just put the splits in the standard spot, they sound good there.
If you want a bit better sound use the dome mounts and put them above the standard spot, So they facing you (obviously!) right in the corner of the dash, pillar and window.
Hope this helps.
Shut up when I'm talkin' to you, you hear me, answer me!
anyone else with anything to add?
because i dont want the to stand out like dogs balls. but i want good sound. cheers guys.
depends how far you want to take it dude. A lot of people make a mould out of fibreglass on the A pillar plastic then carpet over it for the stock look. That would be the ideal position to have them.
What else do you have installed in your system? like give me specs.
I have some Mb quart q line 6.5 inch splits, that i have mounted the tweeter in the stock location. Sounds sweet, you can always try using double sided tape, and have a listen.
Thats personally what i did. and found that a pillars would be better, but it didn't seam to be worth while.
Let me know your system.
Thanks
hey guys well here goes
4 gauge wiring to a dist block in the boot.
a sony 4x50 rms amp
rears: mtx thunder 80wrms 3 way coaxials.
fronts. JL audio vr 600 splits 50 rms
Amp 400rms x2 ohm clarion
sub: Pioneer DVC 500rms sub
oh yeah and i have a jvc mp3 headunit which has 2 rca outs.
might upgrade this to a pioneer one with 3 outs.
hope this helps guys. thanks for the help so far.
with mounting them in the factory location it looks like the plastic is sealed did you cut the plastic or something to let sound out cheers
The old man had a VS that had some nice alpine splits that were fitted by Bunbury HI FI. They mounted the tweeters on the top of the door pod that the 6" goes into. Distance from both sides to your head are very even. They seemed to sound nicer than the ones in my dash, I reckon the sound reflects off the screen a bit too much. Just my $0.02.
hey guys well the speakers are in the stock position for the moment. just going to check how they go first. will let you all know. cheers
