Well...
I've checked different posts to see if they all answer the questions but they don't answer them all to a degree. So let's get cracking.
The front door speakers on a VS Commodore... Size? People here have said they're gonna put 6" splits in etc. But one person on yahoo answers said they're 4 inch. Is he nub or is the front door speakers actually 6". Also can they handle 6.5"?
And one more commodore question... Does the VS have 4" speakers in the top (above dash where the little defrost thing objects are)?
Thats the commodore questions out of the way
My other 2 questions!
1) I like techno, metal, rock and some alternate. I'm not into that rap/grunge **** so big bass isn't a necessity but what should I be looking for? I have spacers for 6 x 9's for the back. I'm not looking for a big 500watt RMS type sub as that would be an overkill for what I need it for.
And thats not all.
2) I'm looking for either a Rockford Fosgate or Alpine setup. I thought about going cheap but audio is usually a matter of "You get what you pay for". Like I've mentioned earlier, I'm not a big big bass shaking Type R sub guy.
So my question is, can the alpine type S or Rockford fosgate speakers get the nice highs in techno, but gets the bass when it goes boom boom in a techno song?
I've got an alpine CDA-9826 headunit if that can help in any form.
If I can, I would like to avoid a sub and amp.
I know I've made it long but thanks in advance.
a.) As if you went to Yahoo Answers and trusted their responseIt is most definitely 6" in the doors on a VS. They will take 6.5" normally though they may need some modification. Some manufacturers (not all) just say 6.5" for a 6" as they include the grill in their measurements, not just the cone.
b.) No that spot is normally just for tweeters in the dash. Get some 6" splits for the front doors and install the tweeters in this location.
For the second lot...
If you want to avoid a sub and amp, then again definitely get splits for the front and the tweeters for the front will help alot with getting those high notes. For the rear, you'll want 6x9's for the bass.
Look for something thats good in Sound Quality for those music types, rather than just something thats loud/powerful. You don't need an amp, but you may find the speakers sound louder and clearer/better if you ran a small 4 channel amp in the boot for the splits and 6x9's. Or just a 2 channel amp for the front splits (even just a 75wx2 or something). I havent suggested Rockford Fosgate because I dont like their PUNCH series at all and their POWER lineup is a little pricey I think. It depends on your budget, but Alpine make good quality speakers for a more competitive price in my opinion.
The front speakers should be splits as I've already suggested and this is where i'd be spending most of my money as you will want good sound quality speakers for the front as these will be the integral part of the system. I'd suggest the Alpine Type R 6.5". You should get them for no more than $200 on sale at alot of places.

The 6x9's will mostly be for rear fill rather than good sound. I suggest a speaker from the same range as the front splits, and I wouldn't bother getting rears that have a wrms rating particularly higher than the fronts. Something similar in wrms rating to the fronts you might find helpful when it comes to selecting an amp (if you do choose to run the speakers off a 4 channel). To match the suggested fronts, i'd go the Type R 6x9's which should be no more than $150 on sale at most places.

I won't suggest an amp as you don't seem to want one (plus I don't like alpine amps as I have had bad experiences with Alpine amplifiers). The Type S 6x9's would definitely be ok as well for the rears instead of the Type R's if you didn't wish to spend the extra on the Type R's as they are just for rear fill, but its only going to be $50 difference at most. For the fronts, again the Type S would be alright, but i'd suggest spending the extra 75 or so bucks as they will provide a bit better sound quality for the music you're after at a still reasonable price.
Thank you for your very detailed reply.
Yeah I've heard Rockford Fosgate are good but haven't really compared the sound against the alpine.
How hard is it to get to the tweeters? Do you have to pull off much?
there are two screws that need to be undone.
im in the process of doing mine- my vr has the grilles but they are filled in so its hacking time lol. if you want good loud sound id go with an amp as you will be much happier even if you run it from under one of the seats.
the screws are right close to the front windowthere are two for the right and two for the left. and its easy to run your tweeter wires down the side.
just let me know if you need any more help mate.
but i definetely would go splits. they sound twice as good as my coaxials i had.
