Question Best Ground for VT/VX Boot

Did a search but it was mostly VN/VP/VR/VS stuff.

I was trying to figure out why a friends sub was not working today, and I found the ground was fair dodgy despite being professionally installed.

At present the ground is run to the bolt behind the middle fold down section of the back seat up the top.

The amp is a Pioneer GM-7300M running at 2ohm (360rms) and the sub is a TS-W307D4 which is a DVC 12" sub rated at 400wrms.

1.) So, where is the best place for a ground for a VT boot?

2.) What is the ideal size for power and ground wires? I thought 4 gauge, but its only got 8 gauge wire for power and ground.

it all depends on how much current he's running and if he is planning on upgrading in the future.

American Wire Gauge, AWG Cable Size Description for Copper Wire Cable
heres a table with how much each size wire can handle roughly. Don't know how accurate that table is though

But according to that table, 8 gauge can only handle 23.6amps.
so the maximum that wire can handle is 14.4volts x 23.6 amps = 339.84watts
so 4 gauge would of been a better for him.

ground is anywhere decent you can find

according to GM-7300M Car Amplifier - - Pioneer Product Archive that amp draws max of 33 amps , so yes 4 guage should have been fitted , go back to the 'professional' that installed it

I've had 2800Wrms worth of amps in my car and I used the bolt under the rear seat that hold the back rest in place. I sanded the metal bare and bolted they ring terminal under the rear seat metal loop.

Yeah, I won't name the place that did it but it wasnt very good. What they've done looks good, but thats about as far as it goes Its a girls car, so maybe they figured they would get away with it.

She is looking at purchasing a second sub, so I might take a look before I fix it and fit perhaps 2 guage if the amp she chooses warrants it.

Ah excellent, cheers mate (I shoulda looked on the Pioneer site myself, all I knew was it had 2 30 amp fuses so I was assuming it would draw atleast 30amp).

Which bolt exactly is that? The one at the centre top behind the rear seat? Or at the bottom?

Where it is now.. Is where the button is to let the middle section fold forwards, its behind there (on the back of the metal clip that the top of the folding section clips onto).

Also, with that amp: "Max. current consumption (A/4Ω) 33 A"

So the rating would be different for 2ohm?

I have mine at the bottom underneath the rear seat (the base bit, not the back rest). The bolt goes through the loop that holds the back rest in place. The metal isn't 100% flat, but the contact seems to be fine for 140A+ that my engine bay fuse holder was showing.
