Default jvc head unit- settings disappear

Hi guys. Just picked my self up an XU6. Just one question- its got a JVC head unit in it. I try to change a few settings, such as stopping the demo from going on and changing the wallpaper. But when i turn the car off and back on, those settings have disappeared and its back to what it was.

Does anybody know why and how i can fix this?

Also... i know you guys might be sick of these questions, but i wanna know if its worth me getting a sub and amp? It sounds pretty bad with the stock speakers and want to get some new ones that have some bass to it as i listen to mostly rock music. Should I get a sub and amp or any of these, or are their speakers aroung that have an awesome amount of bass? Doesnt have to be the best system around, just want it to be better than the stock one with a good sound.

    Many thanks

Who wired the head unit up for you? It may be wired incorrectly. There are two 12V feeds that a head unit will need. One is a constant power and will need 12V all the time to keep settings etc. One is an ACC power, so that power is only supplied when the car is turned on. If the constant power wire is connected to the ACC supply, the head unit will lose power and set factory default settings as if the battery was disconnected. I would be checking that first.

Alrite thanks for that. I was thinking it had something to do with it not getting constant power. Do you have any idea what i would look for? e.g. what colour wire might not be connected etc?

The two wires you want to check are red and yellow. The ACC wire is red and sometimes has a tag on it saying ACC. If you have a multimeter this should only have 12V when you turn the ignition to the ACC position or start the car. The yellow wire is constant 12V. It should have 12V all the time. (wires can differ for some head units)
Just to check something first though - Do you loose the date/time etc? If the head unit is keeping the time but just forgeting one or two settings there may just be a bit of a trick to keep those one or two settings.

like kopper said it needs both wires to hold the settings. Sometimes people get them around the wrong way but often a hasty install might result in constant feed not being connected at all. I have a JVC headunit and have been very happy with it so goodluck.

Well, if you don't want to spend too much money you could simply go out and get yourself a set of 6 or 6.5inch splits for the front and some 6inch or if you like 6x9's for the rear along with a 4 channel amplifier to power your speakers. By doing this you will find that quality will be much much better and you will also get a heap of extra bass out of the aftermarket speakers when amplified.

I dont use or like 6x9's personally, but for someone on a budget and who listens to mainly rock music, i wouldn't bother with a sub. Any other questions, just ask.

Yellow is the constant wire, Red is Acc, wrong way around and it'll lose the settings.

Ok thanks for that. Yes, its loosing the date and time as well. I bought my self some new pioneer speakers, 6x9's for the rear and i think 6s for the front? cant remember but got the lot plus some speaker grills for the back for 230 bucks from jb so will fit these today and see how i go, and will look at that problem with it not getting the constant feed. just a quick questoin- should the wiring for the rear speakers in an xu6 already be their? it doesnt have any speakers in the back at the moment, and has anyone seen the thread for taking off the front door panels?

many thanks guys for your help

As everyone has been saying, you should just be able to swap your 2 power wires and solve your settings problem - I had exactly the same problem with my head unit.

I would be very surprised if your car had no rear speakers - they are probably in the rear doors. You should be able to disconnect the existing rear speakers, intercept their wires just before they enter the doors and divert/extend them to the parcel shelf ....or you can run new speaker wire from the back of the head unit, along the transmission tunnel or sills, behind the back seat and up to the parcel tray.
