After using 12's and 15's of the same brand, i'd pick the 12's. They do sound more responsive than 15's but 15's make low bass seem effortless.

If you're building your own box and have enough power, definately the 2 12's, the more cone area the better. In a proper box the whole "smaller subs are more responsive" argument is BS.

ohk cool thanks for the advice.
Do yous also think that this amp will be a good choice aswell.
The type R's are 500watts rms each i know it says the amp has enough power ot run them but wondering if there is anyhting else to know with buying a not so top of the range amp.

Maybe in your experience... But you can't speak for every speaker out there

I've used a $1,100 15" sub (Adire Audio - Brahma) and then used the 12" version and there was quite a large difference. At the time of testing I listened to a lot of punk which has quite fast bass that the 15" just couldn't handle properly, even in the optimum volume enclosure. In ported it was terrible and in sealed it was much better but still nowhere near as responsive as the 12".

I've also used JL 10W0 vs 15W0 and there was a huge difference in those too.

I used the run 2 x 12' Type S subs, fried them both on 1 night and now running a 15" Type R sub. It just depends on what your after. For me I am enjoying the 15" because the boot space is better and seems pretty responsive...

Didnt go the 2 x 12z because of the fact that I would have overloaded the amp...

even with one Alpine Type R sub, I've had more than enough bass to suit my needs. I couldn't imagine having TWO in the boot, it would just demolish the whole car. Do you really need 2 12's or are you after being heard 2 blocks away?
    My car audio:

CD tuner: Alpine CDA-9884E with Ipod interface
    Front speakers: Alpine Type R SPR-17S 6.5 component speakers, powered by a avant-garde 23dxi 2 channel amplifier - 2x51 watt RMS
Rear speakers: pioneer coaxials connected to tuner
Subwoofer: Alpine Type R SWR-1222D 12" 2 ohm dual voice coil 500 watts RMS powered by a response precision 2x150 watts RMS 2 channel amp bridged to 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms
