ok so this may be a dumb question but i am not really sure. if i have a sub running off an amp and i have it bridged could i connect another sub in the same way (2 +tive wires to one +tive termial, same for -tive) and get the same power output? or would it be halved?
So if i am gettin 400wrms to one sub and i connect another to the same terminals will i only get 200wrms to each sub or 400wrms to each sub. I am guessing it'll be halved?
I don't know heaps about this myself, but if you do connect the second sub, you will then have subs connected in parrallel, so you will effectively have half the resistance, so you will actually get more power out of your amp. I have been looking into this alot myself recently, and this is what I have learnt so far.
You need to look at your amp and see the power rating at different ohms (usually 2 or 4), and the resistance in your subs, (usually 4 but more expensive subs will be 2). If you have two 4ohm subs, then connecting them in parrallel to your amp will give you 2ohm resitance, which will mean the sub will provide however much power at 2ohms.
Hope i didn't comfuse you![]()
nah dude thats sweet as cheers, does that mean i could also connect my amp to sub then sub to sub rather than having them both connected at the amp? and also could i connect up 3 subs to one amp or do i need to check the specs of the amp and would that be running at 1ohm?
My car audio:
CD tuner: Alpine CDA-9884E with Ipod interface
Front speakers: Alpine Type R SPR-17S 6.5 component speakers, powered by a avant-garde 23dxi 2 channel amplifier - 2x51 watt RMS
Rear speakers: pioneer coaxials connected to tuner
Subwoofer: Alpine Type R SWR-1222D 12" 2 ohm dual voice coil 500 watts RMS powered by a response precision 2x150 watts RMS 2 channel amp bridged to 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms
If you have a 4 channel, just connect each sub to the amp seperately using the positive and negative the furthest apart from each other for each sub (positive and negative for each one, use the positive on the far left and use the negative on the far right, bridging in other words), if using a monoblock with 2 subs, link the subs together and one to the amp. Check out the wiring diagram posted by ^^^^^. It's straight forward dude![]()
lol thats cool bezz :P. It's better you correct me because now I know the correct term :P, otherwise I woulda carried on looking like a toolhaha
Cheers dude.
cheers guys, that diagram really helps. i'll see how i go with it all![]()
that crutchfield site is great news. makes everything quite easy to follow.
dont mean to hijack but i have an option audio monoblock that has 2 sets of pos/neg outputs (dont want to say 2 channels as that would be wrong yeah?) has anyone come across this with a monoblock?
oh really. i was just thinking that setting it up in bridge mode mite yield more power?
