Your best bet is to buy a wiring loom adapter for your model, which plugs into the factory wiring plug, so you don't need to hack up your factory wiring to connect your new head unit. The wiring loom adapters also have standard coloured wiring and labels so you know what to connect to where.
You can get the adapters from Autobarn or I can even post you a spare one of mine, if you want...
+1 for Klaw - go with the adaptors, so you can return the stocko when you sell the car! They're not expensive, and the time they save is more than worth it.
To get the gear knob off, you need to unclip the frame around the base of the stick boot from the console, and lift it up over the knob. (before you do this, you obviously need to remove the console insert first - the bit with the window switches and cup holders) You'll find a cable tie around the top of the boot holding it into a groove around the base of the knob - cut the cable tie. Now you need to pull up on the knob - and if it's never been off before you need to pull HARD! (it's got a bit of some sort of adhesive holding it to the stick)
Don't twist the knob around, because there's a "key" up in the top which engages with a slot cut across the top end of the stick. This stops the knob from rotating, but it's made from plastic of course, and if it gets damaged that's what will happen. When you put it all back together, wrap a new cable tie around the base of the knob like it was before to retain the boot. (it's not a bad idea to put a little gob of silicon on top of the stick before pushing the knob back on there too, 'coz there's a bit of free-play in that key arrangement. That's probably why they glued it in the first place)
Hope that helps - cheerz!![]()
