My splits are louder then my sub? Help?

Hey everyone, i was just tuning up my amp and sub to there proper gains and noticed when i have set up my splits, they just end up canceling out the sub!
I am not sure if this is cause the car is off...(as in the voltage may be diff when the car is idle) but there is very little bass and lots of treble.

when i do tune in my gains i do all the normal things, ie no equilizer settings, bass boost is off ect. But i would like to think there would be some bass even while these are on "flat"?
there is no distortion what so ever with my splits just lack of bass.

Here are some specs.

I have a Pioneer 7950UB headunit
4 gauge power cable to distrib block. split into 8 per amp.
Clarion amp running in 2 channel at 130wrms to Alpine Type R Splits. using a fusion RCA Cable.
Response 500wrms to a Pioneer TS-W306C in its original box which is rated to run at 400wrms. Using a Generic RCA cable..

now i am not sure if it is suppose to be like that, or if its the rca cable, or maybe even the way my amps are grounded?

But any tips would be great....i don't really feel like shelling out another couple of hundred bucks to upgrade!

Is there any sound coming out of the sub at all?
I would start by double checking the sub amp is set to LPF

Yea there is definatley sound coming out of the sub. Now my headunit has both low/high gain filters on it, should i keep the amp on full for both and use the headunit to set the filters or use the amp, or both?
could dogey RCA's cause low sound?

Does your headunit let you set the filters seperately each amp?
On my pioneer DEH-3950 I have the rear RCA-out set to 'sub' and can set the other output to 'rears' when I install another amp
I would be setting the sub amp on LPF, but setting the frequency relatively high, then adjusting the frequency with the head unit. That is how I have mone set-up, mainly because I sometimes change it depending on the style of music.
For the splits leave the amp on full and set the HPF on the head unit to cut out bass (if possible)

I would think dodgy RCA's would stop all sound, but I could be wrong. Is the sub out of phase maybe?

This may sound stupidly easy and you must have other issues, but from what i read, turn down the clarion amp gain and turn up the gain on the jaycar amp. Also if you head unit has a dedicated sub out, use that as you head unit will probably have a special sub-volume control in the settings somwhere and a lpf set on it.

^^^adding to that, make sure the sub isn't turned right down in your head unit. Mine has a sub level, bass boost/cut, and low eq boost/cut in the head unit. I would be checking them all. There is probably an easy fix

All headunit settings are correct, i am using the sub out. all equilizer settings are flat. Perhaps i just need to turn down the Splits Gain, or fade it to the rear to get the sound im looking for....
Just seems strange that the splits can be so much louder.

To me it sounds like everything is fine, you maybe need to just play with the settings a bit. If you run out of adjustment on the gains, you will have to set the rca's up so the splits work off the front fadder settings and the sub rca's working of the rear. Then use the fader to turn the splits down. Splits are noisy speakers and with a nice little amp they can start to drown out the rest of the system very easily. Crank up your response amp and see how you go

Also have you bridged the sub for mono, so it works off both channels on the amp. If its not, the sub will be a little softer than it should be too.

Figured out the problem...

MY speaker wires were reversed, ie positive going to negative, negative going to positive.

switched em around and BAMO

umm, that wont effect volume, unless you have one speaker reversed, and the other not reversed

Did u end up turnin the volume up 4 the sub on the head unit aswell like i said? i rekon it would have been more so that than nething but good 2 see its sorted either way
