Anyone know what the plastic is behind the head unit on a vs?.is it part of the heater tubing or something else,i just bought a in dash dvd player and it sticks out about 3-4cm further than it should,so just like to know if i can hack at the plastic to get the unit to fit properly.
hi mate, from memory my vp was the same. I didn't have a dvd but my cd player was quiet difficult to get in because of the heater plastic, a bit of force go it in! I'm not too sure i would be cutting it away though! Just wait to see what others have to say.

That would be the heater assembly. Im pretty sure hacking it up isnt a good idea, but not sure, never have had to do it. The other option would be using the coin tray to mount the unit in. You would need to cut the coin tray out of course. But then your left with a empty space where the unit originally went, but im sure you could find a coin tray insert to fit in there.
I have heard of guys on here using a hot air gun to heat it up and push on it giving you a little bit more room. I cant see you getting 3 or 4 centimetres without damaging it though.
who needs heater when you have a stereo.....? I mean really.......
DVD players in VS commodores typically go into the bottom slot. You can pick up a universal pocket to fit back in where the original radio came out for about $10 from any audio store.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
Until you accidentally over heat the plastic and poke a hole through it...then your screwed unless it's a small hole and then your back in the car with epoxy resin.

hehe All of the ones i've done where people still wanted the lower pocket I used a metal block with a bar welded to it..

dodgy but u might understand lol... i heat up the heater box an do it bit by bit slowly going along.. takes a lil bit but works out nicely, neat an no stressed points causing weakness in the plastic from thinning it out too much. but i've been at the wreckers an seen one with a masssive whole an they've tried to use silicone to block it up.
cheers
