he guys
I'm having some trouble with my head unit .when ever i have the music going the volume drops out every 5 seconds or so and returns to normal . I had a look at it lastnight an i managed to trace the problem to the signal wire on the CD player that turns the amplifier on and off . is there another wire that i could use for a signal wire ? The hed unit and amplifer are about 12 months old and this is the first time i've hand any dramas with either of them . i would like to try and fix problem before i decide to go out and throw away another 400 on a new head unit
The head unit is ALPINE and the amp is a BOSS brand ?
Any thoughts or advice would be good

get it looked at properly b4 you throw it out
it will be something silly like bad power or earth
it's got good earth and they both have power , I disconected the amp and conected my 6x9's directly to the head unit and the speakers , headunit work fine but wen i recconect the CD player/headunit to the amp it starts to cut out again . tomorow i'l pull the RCA cables, speaker wire n stuff out of the car to inspect them all to see if there is a wire earthing out or somethinng , being a VL n all .
cheers mate

You can replace the signal wire with a wire just off the accessories on the ignition, your amp will always be on when the car is on but it will atleast turn off when you turn the car off.
I would check the connection on the remote wire at the back of the head unit. May just be a bit loose. Do you have anything else connected to the signal wire that could be drawing too much power - lights or relay or anything like that?
You could always run a wire from the ACC line. Whenever the car is on, or even on acc, the amp will be on.
ok today i pulled the amp and all of the wirring out of the car and it seems to be fine so i reinstalled the amp and then i ran a wire from the ACC wire to the signal wire for the amp and its still no better so think it could be the amp thats the problem . On payday i'l take it in and see if it can be repaired . At least my head unit is ok![]()
Cheers for the advice everyone![]()
Check your battery terminal and also fuse terminal...make sure those suckers are tight! Double check your ground also.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
nah man i found the problem lol i cranked it up to loud on the way home from a sh#ty at work and i blew 2 diodes inside the amp and a speaker. I bought to new diodes from jaycar now i just got to find someone who can solder them in for me . I think i might change my fuses to a lower amperage items and buy better speakers
. The funny thing is it was workin fine til i switched the car off then half an hour later i went to town for a drive to get a sixpack and the amp started playin up ?
What do u guys think of ALPINE amplifiers and those gold plated battery termanalls ? coz when i get some spare cash i want to get another 4 chanel amp to run two 10 inch subs in my VL .
cheers for your help guys![]()
Best terminal of ever found....the cheap ****ty $2 ones that bend around the terminal because of crap they are...Never seen a terminal make better contact than those things!
As for the Alpine amp? It's an amp....thats about as far it goes. Its nothing special but it's not bad either. If you can get it for the right price then go for it.
