Default 4 Channel amp to speakers...

    Gday all.

Just a few simple questions but ones I am not 100% sure on so please enlighten me

Alright well I bought a rampage dual subs, amp and speaker set. Now I know alot of you are gonna say rampage are crap or something along the lines of that, but for me they do the job nicely on a budget. I am looking to run the rampage and blaupunkt speakers off an 4 channel amp to pick them up a bit more than the alpine head unit, but do you think it would be worth it? I am not looking for a expensive amp, but one that has more clarity and power than the stock head unit's 15watt RMS.

And would the hassle of getting longer cables worth it as well?

    Thanks. Tom.

    Headunit: Alpine CD-9826
Car: VS Commodore 1996 S1 Sedan
Front speakers: Rampage something... 150 peak, 50 RMS
Rear speakers: Blaupunkt GTX-693 240 peak, 55 RMS
    Subs: 2 x 10" 150RMS Each Rampage subs
Amp: 4 x 300watt peak Rampage amp (Not sure of RMS need to check)

    Pretty much.

Amp for the front and rear speakers and that amp for just the subs.

Would I put the speaker amp under the seat or in the back boot with the subs and other amp?

Ideally, I would use that amp you already have for the speakers and then buy a 2 channel or a single channel amp for the speakers and you may as well just buy the same quality amp. Putting a better amplifier behind those door speakers won't really improve a great deal...it'll help but spend the extra money on some xtra boom in your shorts

does ur head unit even have an RCA output?

would be easier getting a new head unit as most are 50w x 4... probebly even sound better in "stereo" sound rather than mono runnin through an amp

    So..

Use the amp I have which is a 4 x 300 watt peak for the speakers... And get a 2 channel amp for the subs?

Sounds logical enough aha. Thanks for all the help. Car audio isn't my best department.

That's a good setup ToMmO, that way you can either "bridge" the two channel amp into a single sub, or run two subs from the individual outputs. Gives you a little flexibility.

Ray - I'm good thanks Mate - busy as a one armed bricklayer in Baghdad though!

    Cheerz!

Well super cheap had a special on the rampage stuff... 2 x 10" subs boxed, 6" Coaxial and 4 x 300watt (Peak) amp for $200. I was originally gonna spend $1300 on a Alpine setup but I only paid $2000 for the car so yeah..

The rampage amp doesn't say what the RMS of them are so it's anyones guess.

The 6" rampage speakers are installed in the front at the moment and don't sound too bad at all. I have taken photos of the amp and subs to help... I don't think you need it though.

    So how it looks now..

Rampage amp - Front and rear speakers?
    Another amp - subs?

    Both mounted in rear?

I keep rambling haha I just want to be sure.

Why is this? I thought it was ok to put an amp under a front seat (if it will fit)
I only ask because I am re-doing the stereo in my car and was planning on putting one of the amps under the passenger seat to keep the boot as neat as possible

Put it under the seat if you want. Wiring is just made easier when it's all in one spot....power wire is what I'm refering to.

Well it is still in planning stages, but I was going to have 1 run to the boot, then into a distribution block for the 2 amps back there, and a seperate run from the battery for the amp under the seat. I guess that would be ok

Sorry for the thread hijack Tommo

    Haha its okay.

I dont mind ahah.. keeps me posting

I will just pick up a 2 channel amp that can do 300watt RMS for the subs.

I will use the rampage amp for the speakers...

The guys installing it should know what he is doing...

Quick question... If the amp is running the same as the RMS, does peak matter?

Cheers all and thanks for all helping already

You should always look at RMS power, as that is how much power the amp can put out all day long safely.
So you are running the 4 speakers off the 4ch amp, and 2 subs off the 2ch amp? Sounds good! Exactly the way I would do it

    Thank you sir.

I will run the rampage amp off the 4 speakers... hopefully at 300 peak each they wont blow.

Now I will find a 2 channel amp at 150 watt RMS each and I am set.

    Thanks for everyones help
