When you talk about the antenna and reception, is the aerial motor blown?

    If I read it correctly..

The only Pioneer issue regarding antennas is that the antenna stays up on CD as well as radio. If the antenna is not going up, it's NOT THE HEAD UNIT unless you've killed the internal circuitry that operates it. The amplifier IC actually controls the "remote/system control" wire, so if that IC has been blown, you'll have no sound and no antenna. Since the original poster had sound, it is not going to be that. If you look at the circuit diagram the only other component on the remote/system control line is a diode to stop retard installers putting 12v into the unit and killing it.

Haha... I don't think you're a retarded installer But many work at the chain stores in Australia

Did you have that problem at all? Back about 7-8 years the remote wire circuitry was external to the output IC and could stop working quite easily, but not on any of the models in the last 7-8 years.

No never had that issue, my biggest issue was firing multiple amps off of them. As I found out some amps draw twice as much as a relay to switch on...put three amps on one remote wire and I'd let the smoke out of the IC. Now I just make it a habit of anything more then two amps and I relay that puppy first.

But your right, some of the installers I see at chain stores...are incredible. There is one located near my store and they constantly call asking for help. One conversation I had the other day. His boss had just brang in a new brand of speaker wire and instead of it having a trace on one wire it had a round wire and the other side was a square...I'm sure you've seen it. Well, he couldn't work out which was negative and which was the positive wire. So after much laughing I told him, it can be which ever you want it to be...pick one and STICK with it. If square is your positive then make square positive on anything you do so you never confuse yourself. His reply was...

"Are you sure square is positive"
    "Dude, it doesn't matter!"
    "I won't short out anything will I?"
".....you will, and I will make plenty of money off of it"
    "what do you mean"
"If you can't figure out which wire you want to be negative and which you want to be positive, then lock your toolbox and get a different job dude because I make a lot of money from you guys screwing **** up"

    His response..."Thats not fair"

I also developed a bit of bad rep in this town with the installers..but the shop managers love me...I have a tendency to take pictures of bad installs and send them to the shops manager so they can deal with it. So many hacks are looking for jobs because they don't take pride in there work...Like finding 3 scotch locks on one ignition wire. Fibreglass boxes that leak like a sieve, twisted and taped wires. I do feel bad for the customer when I have to charge them $125/hour troubleshooting fee but I'm not going to let another stores problems be my problem either. Guys just need to tighten up their act.

Yeah, they are a problem but keep me in a job too... If they didn't blow things up, I wouldn't have anything to fix

i come across one a while back where the installer had just sliced one stretch of speaker wire, around and into the whole 4 speakers, and had glued risers to the door with no screws, twisted and taped the wires and to make matters worse, had cracked several panels while installing and tried to tell the customer that they were already cracked when he got the car................. best part is the caryard bought that car to us 2 days later with a whopping 54 k's on the clock after the customer had complained about the setup and the cracks.....i was only there helping the owner with sales for a few days but it was well worth the laughs the amount of crap they were fixing about 60% of his work load he said come from repairing bad installs
