    Default Calais Antenna!!

hey all, i have put in a pioneer head unit into my VT Calais quite some time ago and when i did so i was mucking around and found that when i put the system remote trigger wire against a wire in the standard radio wiring the antenna would go up and back down when i took it away. I did not bother doing anything more and left it off so my antenna was permanently down.

I have now wired a switch so i can switch the antenna up and down but, i can no longer get it to go up. i tried everything and then put my old standard headunit in and it went up and down.
Now i think the antenna trigger wire was light blue (im sure this was the one i was playing with to make it go up and down b4) according to the wiring diagram this is antenna down. and white is antenna up but yeh im sure i was fiddling with antenna down wire.

Can anybody help me out as to why i can no longer get it to budge??

    Thanks

YOUR HEADUNIT should! should! should! have an antenna wire..

I just checked over 7 different headunits all aftermarket from the past 10 or so years an they all have a dedicated antenna wire...

have you tried pulling the ariel up manually?

You may need to jack it up, take the plastics out and slide them back.
You should then be able to see the bolt holding the ariel on..
Losen the bolt and push the whole thing up untill you can grab the top of the ariel and pull,

    It might just be stuck

Wrong, sorry Hozy, but they don't all have it. Not all aftermarket headunits have the option of both Antenna AND Remote wires in their harnesses.

The issue here is either the switch that was installed is defunct or the power coming down that wire is a problem. What was the switch wired to for power? Try sourcing the power from another location and see what happens. Perhaps a 12V+ACC wire? Try it without the switch then with the switch.

Hmmmm - I also have to wonder with the messing around with that remote wire out of the Pioneer, there's a very strong possibility you might have popped the internal fuse that those have fitted to the remote output. Are you still getting 12V on that remote line when the unit is powered up??

firsty, nope no antenna wire on this unit, only a remote switch on.

"." - what u said is a good idea with the 12v acc thing, its not the switch cos i havent put that in yet all i was doing was pushing it onto the wire by hand to test it, also the remote system wire works as it is currently running my amp fine. I removed it from my amp to try out the antenna and didnt work and its hooked up back onto my amp which is fine.

Ozzie VT - its not jammed as i hooked up my old stock head unit while i was trying to suss it out n it went up no problem.

Man! i wish my stupid head unit just had a antenna wire also im 100% positive it worked when i tried it when i installed the head unit but it would stay up while playing cds so i left it off completely for the time, could it be something to do with the power being put out by this wire, like maybe the amp can run with a smaller spark than what the antenna needs to be switched.

Nope, not that at all....unless you have a voltage loss.....I wonder?
