I just got my head unit, but the wires confuse me!

Ok, I pulled out the stock vx head unit, on my new unit each cable lists what it is going to be used for... but how do I know what the equivalent is on the existing wires?

I have heard there is an adapter or somthing. What is it called as I may just get one of them .
