Default what dose a distribution power block do?

I am in the middle of setting up my second amp, and found out that I need a distribution power block. But after seeing a few pictures of them, it got me thinking...

If I got a small ring of thick cable and connected my power cable to that, and another 2 cables of the same size to the ring and have those 2 cables going into the amps I wouldn't need to get one, because all they are is a chunk of metal coated in plastic.

Yeah, I know that a distribution block only costs $10.00 but I have the cable sitting around and I don't want to go back into the shops as I will leave with alot more then just the block

I guess you could do that if the wire is big enough.
the main reason you get a distribution block is because you usually have a larger wire from the battery to the back, and then two smaller wires to the amp. This way you can use the right fuse at the right places. A larger one at the front and then 2 smaller ones in the boot

just lug the ends with 8 or 10mm lugs and bolt them together with 8 or 10mm bolt. Rap up in some scotch 23 if you have some or just some electrical tape if you dont.

Obviously you have the correct rated protection in place

im guessing that he has a large feed wire from his batt to his boot and relised that he needs more connections from the feed wire so needs to "split" the wire...

Yes, you can do what you described... but its a little add-hoc and gay. Just buy the distroblock....

*yes, you can do what you asked... please fuse everything... im being a toss cos i like things done overkill lol*

    aZk.
