Not my car but a mates VT Calais driving along and poof, all music stops and the after market head unit he has in it is saying protect. I thought it couldnt have been the speakers blown not if all of em went quiet. I thought maybe a fuse? I really dont know. Any ideas fellas![]()
check all the speaker wires one of them could have cut through and earthed out on some metal. its happened to me before.
I agree with Jonesy - most likely a speaker short. And not necessarily from one speaker wire to the other - a short from either wire to ground will also cause amps (or HUs) to enter protect mode. I doubt very much whether it's a fuse - that's more likely to cause the unit to completely shut down.
Most units will enter "full" protection mode (all channels stop functioning) even if it's only a single channel which has the short. They shut the amplifier stage down to prevent damage.
Good luck with it.![]()

My housemates old kenwood HU did this last week. All it took to fix was a wiggle of the plug on the back.
Failing that I would be checking for a short somewhere as suggested. Maybe a bad earth?
