heyy,
bit of a noob at this kind of thing, i know where everythings got to go, its just getting there thats the problem...just bought a secnd hand pioneer 5100-T and am going to run my 6x9's off it until i get a sub,(and a better head unit). the dodgy double din headunit i got in my VY dont have any RCA preouts i dont think?...so do i run it as if it were speakers using the speaker inputs?..and run that to the amp then plug in the speakers from the amp?...also i only have a ground wire about a metre long..if the amp is going in the boot...any recommendations on where to put it?..thanks
Hi your on the right track cause you have no RCA output on the VY head unit you need to use the speaker output wires directly into the amp,I presume your 6 x 9s are in the rear parcel tray so the best place to put the amp is gonna be in the boot somewhere and run your main power & accessory to it and run your earth from there.
I have my pioneer amp under the passenger seat it powers the sub its a good place for it as its not in the way and its unused space.
The VY is not as easy as the VX to fit an aftermarket head unit to but well worth doing.
i do have an aftermarket headunit lol sorry for the misunderstanding...but its an ebay one...am looking at upgrading to a Pioneer AVH-P4050DVD soon though...but yes i think i might wait...but if i decide to hook it up...and put it in the boot...where wud the best place to put the earth wire as its only about a metre long??..
and how do i go about using the speaker inputs...i go...from the back of the headunit...to the amp right?..
thanks
Ok so heres how I did my vx - everything with the exception of the accessory feed to the stereo is independant of the factory system.Head unit JVC all the bells and whistles - front speakers infinity components mids in the doors tweeters on the inside top of the windscreen powered by the head unit - rear 6 x 9 in the parcel tray but on pods powered by a pioneer amp around 150 rms mounted upside down under the parcel tray - 12 " sub in custom made box that fits snugly into the side of the boot powered by another pioneer 150rms mounted under the passenger seat - it took many hours but OHH YEAH worth it.
sound sweet
thats where i was thinking of mounting my amp?...heard its bad for it...but then again heard its not...so yeah...well if i just take the speaker wire out of the 6 x 9 s coming from the headunit...chuck that in the speaker input terminal..and then use speaker wire to reconnect them through the amp..and where abouts you chuck your earth cable??...:S as myn is only about 1 metre long..and is it hard to connect it to the battery :S..any special tools?..lol
if i had your system i would totally rewire it. amp under the passenger seat connected to the components in the doors. The 6x9's connected to the headunit and the amp in the rear connected to the sub. You already have the sub so there really isn't any need to amp the 6x9s. Amping the splits will give the mid bass and higher notes up front more oomph.
But anyways....
I mounted my amp upside down as well which isn't ideal as heat rises. The heat sink depending on the design will trap that heat and the amp might overheat. Sayin that though i never had a overheating problem with my amp and ran fine
If your amp as high level inputs then thats the way you're supposed to do it. If it doesn't then you're gona need a high to low converter which you can buy from jaycar, jb etc...
Have you got all the wiring already? if not just go to jaycar and buy like 5metres of red 4ag wiring, a fuse holder, fuse, terminals and what ever length ground wire you need. If you cant be bothered buying it separately you can always buy the kits at JB which will have everything you need.
And the problem with only have a metre of ground isn't really a problem, 4ga is like 10bux a metre. spend like 10bux and save the headaches
i bought it with the wiring second hand....i got 5m 4gauge red wiring....with a fuse on the wire..?..and a metre long ground cable?...
do i need a fuse if there is one on the cable?..
