Could anyone give me some information regarding the standard Blaupunkt audio systems found in VE Omega - SS...
In particular, if your looking at an SV6 for example, the standard stereo is not mp3 compatible. However, there is an option for the 6-disc mp3 compatible system found in the SS - at a price of $550 odd dollars!! Ridiculous price to ask for an upgrade to a 6 stacker mp3 if you ask me... Any other differences between these two systems? As far as I know, there is no difference in the rest of the system (ie speakers, power etc).
Any info on the standard systems would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
The SV6 and SS should have the same headunit as they both receive the same 7 speaker stereo. Upgrading to the 6 stacker mp3 should not effect the speakers (i.e. you won't get the extra speakers of the higher end models).
Other info on the VE systems that i've posted in other threads:
Omega, Lumina etc. get a 6 speaker stereo, whilst Berlina(?) SS and SV6 get 7 speaker stereo. Calais V, SS V get 11 speaker stereo. I believe normal Calais gets 11 speaker setup also.
For the Omega it should be a 6 speaker stereo which is as follows:
- 2 Front Speakers
- 2 Rear Speakers
- 2 In dash tweeters
The SV6 and SS and Berlina(?) get the 7 speaker which is the same as above add on one speaker, which is the centre dash speaker (waste of time anyway).
So I've got a 2008 SS with 7 speakers and a Blaupunkt head unit. I'm happy with the head unit (I like the AUX input, steering wheel controls and bluetooth) but the speakers leave a lot to be desired (lets face the factory speakers are crap - my old Nissan had better factory speakers).
I wanted to change of the speakers (all 7 of them) and add a couple of 10" subs or a "Kicker" style box. Need advice if this is a DYI project or should I go see a pro? Also, where is a good place to go and get advise on all this and see some products?
I live in the Hills district near Sydney.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks
As I don't live in Sydney I cant suggest places to go, but some advice that may help..
First thing I would suggest is removing the centre dash speaker (the 7th speaker in the setup) as it is more of a hindrance than a benefit.
Replacing the speakers themselves should be fairly DYI, as its a fairly simple setup.
2 rear speakers (replace with some decent coaxials).
2 front speakers which should be replaced with some good quality splits (these are where you wanna spend the money as it will determine the quality of the sound) and use the tweeters to replace the in dash tweeters. Thats it for replacing factory speakers, its just a matter of buying two sets of speakers and installing them.
Subs, where do you want them? Just in the boot?
Any particular why you want 10"? If its space, maybe get one good quality 12" instead of two 10's. If you prefer the sound of a 10", you can get some good SQ subs in 12" also.
If you are going to run subs you'll need an amp as well, so i'd suggest running a 4 channel amp for your in car speakers also while you are at it.
Thanks Mate. Those are great suggestions.
As for the subs, the reason I am looking at dual 10" subs is because I want to place one behind each back seat (they don't fold down). If I went with the 15", then I have to worry about placement. Also I think the dual 10s will be great for giving my kids a back massage when I start playing some hip-hop.
I'll start looking around at the area for a good store.
Thanks again.
why do you want 2 subs over 1?
Its all about balance. With one Sub, I would have to place it in the middle but that's where the pass through is in the car. I also can't create any custom enclosures as the missus will probably kill me (trust me that would not be a good idea). I figured since the back seats don't fold down, putting a 10" behind each sub would be the best idea. It would give me the best possible sound and I don't lose that much space in the trunk.
Under 100hz or something you can't tell what direction bass is coming from anyway so it doesn't matter where in the boot the sub is.
The sub shouldn't really be used much over 80hz.
how much bass do you really need? 2 subs and a hearing aid for when your older
Ok, Ok, I get the message. I'll stick with one good quality SUB and place it somewhere out of the way of the crap that will end up in the trunk.
As for needing the hearing aid, you know sometimes its good not to be able to hear some things - if you know what I mean;-)
Now, I need to find a good place to get all of it.
Thanks.
