Hey guys I'm new to these forums, im not even on my P plates yet (eventhough I coud have been) but ive recently bought:
Pioneer DEH-4650MP Headunit
Pair of Boschmann 6 & half " 150RMS 3-way For front Doors
Pair of Pioneer TS-A6991R 5-way 6x9" 80W Nominal Power speakers for rear.
I dont have the cash for an amplifier or subs atm, so Im just planning to install what I've bought.
Im currently bidding on a pair of 6x9" spacers for the rear because the man at the audio store said that they can't put 6x9" speakers in the rear parcellshelf due to cutting metal and stuff. The intended car Im guna try and install these into is a 94 VR exec S2. I have read the previous posts about removing old stock headunits and such, but If you guys would like to talk me along and have a chat about it then be sure to post.![]()

this probably isn't what you wanted to hear but your choice in speakers isn't exactly the greatest. Going for anything more than 2 way is basically pointless. And if you plan on putting subs in a later date then 6x9s arent a great idea either. If you want to go for a good sounding system I'd try getting a refund on the 6x9s, put your 6.5 3 ways in the back and get a decent set of 6 inch splits (it will take some work to get 6.5 s in the front) then later on you can amp the front splits and add a sub or two. Thats probably the best sound you'll get with out going to extremes. But if your just looking at a cheap system and dont want to spend alot of money a set of 6xps in the back is a good option, they will just never sound right paired with subs.
i second gumbs idea. when your 6x9's are installed with subs, all the 6x9's are going to do is start to distort.. so i recommend a nice set of 6.5" for the back... this is coming from personal experience with having 6x9's in the back with a single 12" sub in the back.
bummer hey, awww i dont wuna give up my beutifull pioneer 6x9's. Won't the 6.5" fit into the front? Shit hey. Ive got some thinking to do. I dont know much about splits, perhaps you guys can tell me?
the 6.5s can be made to fir but i dont know how. Gtheres plenty of tutorials tellying you how. Splits have the tweeter mounted seperatly so they can have a better designed cone. NAd give beter base.
Hey man i have the same car as you and i got a kenwood system in it 6 inch in the front and 6 X 9 in the back but i rekon you should do what i did get a 4 channel amp and run the 6 X 9 and a sub off it and it will sound sick
1. You can fit 6x9s with out spacers , the metal is not structural that you have to cut.
2. Why bother with 6x9s if your getting a sub ?
3. The stockies are 6" front and rear and trying to fit 6.5" in the front will be difficult but doable.
4. Fitting 6.5" in the rear will have the same problem as point 1
5. Wompy what makes a system sound SICK ?

i have 94 vr exec and i have 7x10 kickers, 15 in kicker comp vr sub and rockford fosgate 6.5 for front with a pioneer deh-p8450mp head unit. as everyone has said the 6.5 are tricky to get into front but doable with some cutting of factory pods and the 7x10's went staright in the back where factory speakers were, had to remove back seat and parcel shelf cover but they just bolted straight it. 7x10's dont distort with sub and the sound i get is clear and powerful.

How could they just bolt straight in when the factory speakers are 6 "

Isn't fitting 6x9s just your cheap mans sub? Thus get some good 2 ways and a decent sub, instead of making one speaker (well conceptually two) trying to do two jobs?
i dont know but they did, the magnet fit into the original hole just nice and just screwed them in. had to fit them long ways and not across and theyve been in there for 12 months and havent come loose at all

I assume you didnt take the shelf out and they fitted in the hole in the top the shelf ?
That means someone has already cut the metal plate from underneath the shelf or I can gaurantee they would not fit in that easily.

yeah i took the shelf out and yes they fit in that easy. the 7x10's came with an adapter so they will fit into a 6x9 hole so maybe that raised them up enough to fit and there was no cutting already done.

Was there like a bridge thing underneath where the 6" screwed into ?
Sounds strange is all.

umm just goin back to what someone said about gettin anything more than 2 way speakers is pointless........i just installed a pioneer 4650MP in my VR wagon and am lookin to get some 6x9's in the back but there are so many to choose from i seriously have no idea, but i dont wanna go spending ridiculous money. i dont plan on gettin a sub cos its a wagon and i need the space, so i was just wondering wat are some decent 6x9's, and what 3 way 4 way 5 way all that stuff means, how many watts, etc..... i think my deck is 200W (50x4) so yeah, any advice would be cool.
Also any ideas on how to install 6x9's in a wagon, if anyone on here has done it themselves?
Thanks!
ok
what if you already have a set of 6x9s in the parcel shelf and are planning to add a 12 incher to the boot? Is there a way of setting it up so that the 6x9s don't destort?
Or should I try and sell my 6x9s and get some splits instead?
Well a mate of mine in Perth fitted his 6x9's into the sides of the boot part of the Wagon. I guess you can just take off the trim and somehow bolt them on :S Who knows but its a good idea. That way they shouldnt take up any space at all. (Currently wondering where in a wagon the factory back speakers are situated..back doors?)![]()
You prob would be able to fit box'ed sub(s) in the boot part of your wagon and when you need the space lift the sub(s) over into the back seat? (assuming you wont need to put the back seats down most the time.)![]()
[QUOTE=Frawley]so i was just wondering wat are some decent 6x9's/QUOTE]
I have JBL 6x9's and I think they are great value for your $$$. About $200 is plenty for 6x9's, but you can get cheaper.
Heaps of people swear by JL and Pioneer, but I think JBL is right up there. Of all my setup, the JBL is by far the most impressive sound.
ive personally chucked 6 1/2" kenwood splits in the front of my 94 vr and 6 1/2" in the rear
my system, it fkn rocks: "response" 2x 150 wrms, "response" 4x50wrms, 12inch "Kicker" CVR, 6inch "response" splits, 6x9 "velocity" coaxials, and JVC head unit
