A good set of splits would do, but there's probably not alot gained from better speakers because the stock headunit doesn't have alot of power to drive them. Look into the ASR part of the forum, great upgrades available for stock units.
I know this has probably been covered before, but i really have no idea when it comes to car audio. I want to get some better speakers in my VY storm ute, however i do not really want to change the head unit or add amps in. What kind of speakers should i be looking at? Any help would be great.
Thanks

i am in the same boat as you... looking for a pair of 6's to put in the front and run off my fact head unit.... What should i Get?
Theres not much gain to be had, as the stock headunit would only be feeding the speakers ~15rms watts (MOSFET 50x4 would be around 20-23wrms), which would probably be below the factory speaker ratings anyway. You could just grab a cheap set of splits, but being a cheap set the sound quality won't get much better anyway.
so theres no point replacing speakers without replacing the headunit and/or adding an amp?
I wouldn't bother without an amp, even just something small. Otherwise the cost for gain isn't in your favour.
There is a gain, just minimal. But I wouldn't go spending much money on the speakers if they're only going to be running off the stock headunit.
i would only be looking at spending around 30/40/50dollars.
I wouldn't get just standard co-axials, i'd get splits and im not sure you can get them that cheap. Maybe take a look at component speakers at JB's, see what price they start at.
would splits run ok off the head unit though?
They'll run alright, definitely not as good as they could...But they should be better than the stock setup and better than coaxials.
