hi everybody what i want to know is there a cheaper sound deadener i'm a broke apprentice and dynamat is so expensive any help would be greatly appreciated
paper mache? lol Check online...FatMat is pretty cheap from what I understand.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
concrete?
rubber or bitumen based?
hi garfa yeah whatever
Just save your money and buy the good product to start with...
Jaycar Electronics
Jaycar sell heaps, and it's much cheaper than Dynamat. The only thing better about Dynamat is their marketing! Bitumen and some tin foil is bitumen and tin foil, there aint much to it!
If you dont have the $$$ to buy dynamat, either save you pennies untill you have enough for what you need (which wont be much if its going in the ute) or if you REALLY want SD now, then use the Jaycar stuff.....its ok but i'd use 2 layers of it, one dosent really do much im my opinion.
depends what you want really!
i used septone body deadener on my pillers, floorpan ( inside and underbody) arches, parcel shelf, inside roof, boot floor, firewall, and when the engine was being swapped i hit the engine bay with it and just used some jaycar mats for the doors and top of boot with and althouhg a pain in the arse job imho well worth doing protects against rust, and [ slightly] improves your sound...

Hmm... well I take that back then!
That said, I used two packs of Dynamat Extreme on my old VT, and I never really felt like I got my moneys worth from it. I got it relatively cheap on eBay, but even so it wasn't all that they make it out to be.
I did the inner and outer panels of the doors, plus the boot. If I'd known about the Jaycar stuff I reckon I would have tried that and been a few hundred bucks richer for it!
PS. search Jaycar for "sound deadener", they have a bunch of products, I only chose that one because it looked the closest to Dynamat.
PPS. one thing Dynamat has going for it is you get free stickers (if that's your thing!)
mmmmm stickers.....
I just did my boot lid useing expanding foam...
To be perfectly honest, it made a heap of differance...
Just a messy job..
The all new TATA Nano, India's $3000 low cost car, Runs on Chicken Vindaloo!
That stops vibrations between the boot lid and bracing. Deadening is different, it stops resonances of metal panels.
I used stinger roadkill in my boot its slightly cheaper than dynamat but not by much if I had the choice again I wouldnt of bothered with it as I got better results from filling the boot with spacefoam from bunnings
i was looking at dynamat the other day ay... but i couldnt work out how id get it in my bootlid :S
You stick it on the inside of the boot skin.
Hi guys,
Sorry to bring up a older thread. I've got a sound deadening question.
I've just got my new sub and it's making my boot rattle so much it's not funny. I've got Dynamat in my boot lid but it's still shaking. If I put another layer of deadening ontop of the previous will it be better? I'd go with a cheaper deadening such as the Jaycar one mentioned.
Also, my rear windscreen seems to be shaking aswell, is there anything to I can do to reduce the pressure on the windscreen? The sub I'm using is a Hifonic Olympus 2412 (2400rms at 1ohm).

You wanna find out what is actually rattling. Dynamat blocks noise from outside, its not so much for rattles.
Often two things in the boot that rattle are 1) the lock mechanism for the boot, 2) the license plate and/or frame.
As said above, rattles need to be found and stopped. A rattle is two things hitting each other, separate them with foam or rubber and the noise will be gone. Dynamatting everything won't stop rattles![]()
well it will stop some rattles but not the most annoying ones
Well I've taken my parcel shelf off to take out my back speakers and i was tapping everything and noticed that the parcel shelf brake light was very rattly, the frame it sits on i mean, but it's not bolted down its like glued down or watever it is so i cant tighten anything. My number plate did rattle, until I stuck a sock under it XD But my boot lid near the windscreen area still rattles thats why I wanted more dynamat. Also on the VS, the spare wheel is on the left hand side, theres a couple of vents ... can it damage anything if I block them off?

Yeah the parcel shelf is another common one. The VT design was relatively "loose", the VZ has more factory padding.
I got rid of mine by adding cloth sound deadener (the stuff they make from scraps of cloth squashed together, its lighter and puffier than Dynamat which wouldn't be good here) along the rim at the rear of the shelf, and along the low points of the shelf that were most likely to contact with the metal frame. The bulb holder itself was fine in my case, it was the shelf.
Lol @ the sock, still, it works
The vents I believe are to let moist air out, as the boot is prone to rust in all cars.
