hi just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the cheap amps off ebay? opinions?
New 500 Watt 2 Channel Car Audio Power Amplifier Amp - eBay Amplifiers, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 28-Aug-08 17:00:00 AEST)
In reality your only going to get what you pay for, Theres no way of really telling how long it would last.
The absence of adjustable hi-lo pass crossovers does not give it much tuning ability. Appears it only has preset fullrange and a low-pass (sub) setting.
My advice is it may be OK for running sub if your on a very tight budget,
But it would be best to fork out a bit extra and look at the Jaycar Response range, they offer very good value for money amps.
oh ok thanks can anyone suggest a cheap amp that will run 2 pairs of speakers i need about 4-500 watts
You should start a "benny mckellar's questions thread" and ask everything in there or we could create a new section for all your separate threads
Cheap crap on eBay. If you don't have much money, look for second hand name brand amps or Jaycar amps.
Why do you need 4-500 watts? What are you running? Is that Watts max or Watts RMS?
You should only look at the RMS ratings as they're more accurate.
yeah i was lookin at the max one pair is 280 watts max and the other pair is 220 sorry bout all the questions but i'm on a pretty tight budget and don't wanna learn the hard way(expensive way)
If your running two pairs of speakers your best getting a 4 channel amp. As stated you need to look at the WRMS rating of the speakers and get a 4 channel amp with a similar WRMS rating per channel, about (+/-15%) of each other or thereabouts is a good approximate.
My mate recently picked up a secondhand Alpine 4ch of ebay fairly cheap.
What brand and model speakers are they? We need to find out the Wrms rating so we can tell you what rating amp would suit them.
i bought one of the exact same amps off ebay that you have put a link up on because i got it real cheap, right now its powering two subs, had it a few months and works fine. im about to sell it with the subs as im upgrading but for a temporary amp, does the job!.
had a cheapo "boss" brand amp in the boot for 4 years and apart from one stinking hot day after 6 hours of running (it went into protection mode til it cooled a abit) i never had an issue. Where abouts are you? I'll sell it cheap!...
i bought a cheap amp from ebay
some no name brand that looked like a kenwood
best $100 i spent, still working 3 years later
hi would this amp be any good do ya reckon. I'm not sure but i think speaker city is a bit of a brand name in the US. Can anyone tell if it will run speakers i kinda get the impression its for subs

that amp is worse than the other!
"5 amps power consumption"...
no fuse......
DODGY!
I had a look at the Powervox website and it states that the PA-288 is a 800 watt 2 channel amp. So don't know whats going on here. Also its output is onlt 80WRMS, which isn't real high at all.
Personally i'd steer clear and wait till I could afford a good one. But hey thats my idea and who knows maybe this one will last you.

theres some good quality amps for cheap, i just picked up a pioneer 4 channel amp for 180 and theres another for 229, both only a couple of months to 6 months old.
hi yeah thats what i'd end up doin 99% of the time anyway. i've got 2 pairs of speakers that aren't run by an amp yet and the sub is on a monoblock amp do you reckon get a 2 channel amp for the speakers and leave sub on the monoblock or get a 4 channel amp and run everything off it
never bought an cheapbay amp but word of advice is to not trust the power ratings all inflated even if it is 'max'. Id say go to cash cnverters and get a branded one
or ebay atleast....... BEST option is go into jb hifi, talk to the person in car audio, have a good convo with them THEN when it comes to it, ask them whats the BEST price they can do.....
best way of doing itbecause some will even come close to cost price if they think your a good bloke....
Yep steer clear of Ebay amps, if something goes wrong you'll need to pay for another amp and then you might as well just bought a better one in the first place.
As stated above, look at well known branded amps second hand off Ebay...from Australia. Anything Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer etc that isnt 5+ years old will serve you well for the money. But if you can afford to or want to by brand new, the Jaycar Response amplifiers are very good value for money, plus you get a warranty![]()
yeh just got my pioneer amp today in the mail, in very good condition. only 6 months old.
Clarion and Pioneer have just released a nice entry level range of amplifiers....actually, so have Orion.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
It's like buying anything else just be careful who you buy from, go for the main car audio brands ie. clarion and pioneer.
Just really got 2 watch it, u do get wat u pay for some r lucky. I brought a $40 Amp of ebay 2000W american boss works fine has been now for 2 years. Just goes to show you never know.
PS MY SONY XPLOD AMP IS ON EBAY!![]()
