Default Sub not working

ok so i've done a bit of a search but cant find anything so...I had one amp powering 2 subs then bought a more powerful amp today hooked it up and it worked like a charm then after a bit of driving round (20mins max) i came home turned it all off then came out 5mins later, mounted the amp and was going to tune it but it wouldnt work, wouldnt turn on at all. So i hooked my old amp up and that didnt work either.

I have checked all fuses and they are all ok.

I have two fuses on my battery cable, one close to the battery one close to the amp (only to make the cable long enough) but this was working fine before so i dont think its that.

There was no smoke/fumes that smelt like it had burnt out or blown or anything.

I have disconnected the battery, left it and reconnected it and that didnt work.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it may be or a way i could fix it? I know the amp works because i had it working for a while, it didnt overheat or anything. Could it have turned itself off or gone into like a protection mode? Sorry for the long post but i wanna get as much info across as possible. Any help would be great

OK, i would grab a test light or multimeter and see if theres power on the positive terminal and the REM terminal of the amp (with the car acc on) If thats all good, check the earthing spot on the car, make sure its tight and has good contact with the metal.

Depends on what type of fuse it is, AGU is a cylinder shaped fuse and ANL is a wafer type fuse that uses screw terminals on either end to connect each side of the fuseholder.

Here is the AGU type Fuses

Here is the ANL Type

If its the normal 5AWG AGU gold plated fuse then it should marked on either on of the fuse (40-60AWG) most likely.

If it has blown there is a reason for this, probably because your new amp pulls more power than your old one, what size power cable are you using and is this amp the only amp in your system running off this cable?

I would probably recommend upsizing the fuse, but this would depend on what size cable your using, if its 8AWG dont go higher than 40A, if its 4AWG go with a 60A fuse.

Also just make sure your connections on either side of the fuseholder are fine, its probably not this.....but id say youve blown the fuse because your new amp pulls more current than the old one

hey mate that helps heaps.

Its an ANL type fuse and yea my new amp pulls a hell of a lot more current than my old one, its the only amp on that power cable and the cable is 8 gauge so i should just get a 40A fuse then to replace the one that blew. I'll pop out tomorrow morning and grab one.

Cheers dude

most ANL fuses are rated pretty high and you're only running 8ga wiring. so make sure you dont get a fuse thats rated higher then the wiring can handle, otherwise the wire will burn out before the fuse does.
If you've got some spare cash, upgrade the wiring to atleast 4ga, 8ga is just too small imo

How mush power does the new amp put out...ex. total 500wrms?

If its over say 300wrms id be upgrading to 4AWG, you'll notice a big difference in total power output from your amp too, as the voltage drop wont be as drastic as i'd say it is now.

Evan is right too, i doubt you'll find a 40A ANL fuse, they would start around 60-80A.

um atm its putting out 350wrms per channel and its 2 channel, i actually found out i dont have an ANL fuse its an AGU and i managed to find one really easily today and put that in then had it all going sweet for the rest of the day with no dramas. I will be upgrading the wiring sometime over the next couple of weeks, we'll see how it how all goes. Cheers guys
