stereo setup for WH Statesman

hi everyone, newbie here. Anyway my issue is that i currently own a 2000 WH Statesman and the factory stacker is playing up no end (whilst playing cd the music tracks stop and start frequently). I am seriously considering removing the stacker and replacing the headunit (preferably ipod compatible) and i know i will need a double DIN setup, what i am looking for are any suggestions on which way to go, or if anyone knows of people who have done this themselves. You could always go a single DIN unit, as they make pockets that fit in nicely below the aftermarket unit.
This just means you have a wider choice of headunits to choose from, and are cheaper too.
Ive done a few VT-VXs (similar to the WH) and they turn out pretty good with a single DIN unit and the pocket underneath.
