Also Replacing my Antenna that Popped out
Tips Prease and anything to help as im not Totally CLueless but will no doubt get stuck.
Rule 1 - Buy a loom adapter, and dont chop at wires, will take you no time, and will be heaps easier to remove!
Wish they had one when i installed mine.. regret it now :S
Yeah i got a ISO Wiring Adapter and European Antenna Plug. I Have the RCA's and Power Cables from the install on my old car a CE 2000 Lancer do you thin this would be sufficient or will iut have to be longer?
The ISO adaptor will need to be one for a VZ commodore, they have different wiring to the lancer. Although if memory serves me correct you will need the euro. plug adaptor.
The RCAs should fine as they only really make 3m and 5m RCAs....along with the power cable, so long as the amp was mounted in the boot of your old car, you should be right.
Sweet mate yeah it was in the boot mounted on the underside of the Parcel Shelf, Any prefernce as to Amp loaction in the VZ?? also what's rquired to put 6x9's in the VZ Parcel Shelf??
You could mount the amp on the other side of the back seat (see cooling fan thread for pics) or on the underside of the parcel shelf like the lancer.
To put 6x9s in a VZ you'll need to remove the parcel shelf and pop out the steel cutouts that are spot welded in. Plus i think you'll need to cut the spots out of the parcel shelf for the grilles and get some from the wreckers etc. ( i may be wrong on this one, havent put 6x9s in a VZ for a while).
In my opinion if your installing a sub you dont wanna bother with 6x9s as the only benefit over 6.5"s is bass response which you wont be needing (sub). I think upgrading the rear door speakers would be your best option (and easiest).
Concentrate on your front speakers if you wanna upgrade speakers, spend atleast $2-300 on a good set of component speakers (splits) and get an amp to run them, brands like Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood make good sets for that sort of money, but for a tad extra you'll notice the difference if you buy a set of MB Quart, Focal etc.
On my brothers advice want to steer clear of putting bigger/better speakers in the doors on account of the bass stuffing the window rollers ect.
i'll take a look at the pics ta mate.
thats a new one, never heard that before haha! I assure you unless u mount some DD subs or something running 2kW+ there is no way that is going to happen. I've had 'moderately' powered speakers running in the doors of all my cars over the years and not once has that ever been a problem, nor occured to me that it would in any way be a problem...
Its definitely worth investing in some quality fronts and some sound deadener - easily one of the most important parts of a good car stereo.
Ta mate it'll be a gradual thing as my job doesn't pay alot ATM mainly focused on the new deck amp and sub in and see what she puts out f i get in quick enough on the deck i get some 6"'s with it but taking the door mould off is a lil daunting
i'm a little old for the Doof Doof now but it's nice to have once in a while. (26 Btw)
Also does anyone know of a Usb to 12V adaptor for chargin an ipod in car?
Nah upgrading speakers in the doors wont do any damage to the window or any internals. The door goes through more torture when closing, plus the vibrations of everyday driving.
Here are some car chargers off Ebay, ive one myself and it works fine.
ipod car charger, ipod nano car charger, MP3, Digital Accessories, Mobile Accessories items at low prices on eBay.com.au
No worries, you'll find the system will sound alot better with just standard speakers and a subwoofer, as your OEM speakers wont have to produce bass (thats for the sub).
I would recommend when the system is installed to tune it with the head-units' bass settings on low or 0, and adjust the amplifier to suit your bass needs when tuning.
