I'm having an issue with my sound system (as my other post)
I have a:
2000W American Boss Amp
600 W Clarion Subwoofer
1200W Kingwood Subwoofer
2 6" Speakers (Jaycar 150W Each)
2 Tweeters
Basically, the protection mode keeps coming on when the bass is too high
What I first thought it was was the 6" Were amped up, the protection was coming on due to the possibility of over heating,
I disconnected the speakers and just tried running the 2 subs, that worked, but once the bass was to high, protection mode kicked back in.
The problem is ive had this exact same issue before, just a different ground/mains wire, and its never happened.
Since disconnecting the speakers, the amp is now STUCK in protection mode (not overheating or anything) with all the settings on LOW.
Im really stuck, as much help/ideas as possible would be GREAT!!!!
THANKS GUYS!
OK well it could be a number of things...
Your power/ground wires are connected poorly and the amp is having trouble pulling the current required on bass notes at high volumes.
What size cable are you using (8awg/4awg)?
Where have you earthed the amp to and have you taken the area back to bare metal?
What impedance are the subwoofers and how have you connected them to the amp?
Is the enclosure/s ported or sealed?
Hate to say it, but the American Boss amps arent the best.....Try disconnecting all cables running to the amp (power/ground, RCAs and speaker). Leave it for a good 5 minutes then connect everything back up, earth then power, RCAs then speaker.
At a rough guess i would unfortunately say the amp is gone, but i could be wrong untill you answer / do the things ive suggested.
Thanks buddy,
The Power/Grounds are connected 100% Fine, ground to bare metal, using a 10AWG Grounds/Power Supply
Not sure wat Impedance is lol a little more info would be good, but both subs are on seperate channels (all wired correctly of course)
I dont know what enclosures are or if there ported or sealed, maybe a little more info on that would be good too
Ill try disconnecting it all today and isolating each speaker to see if its a wiring issue. Ill let you know how that goes!
if its 10awg then its more than likely your power cable, even though the amp says "2000w" thats its maximum output power so i would assume around 500wrms (maybe).
I would upgrade that power cable to atleast 8awg but 4awg would be better.
Just to verify this, if the amp does come back on and you have a multimeter put the probes on the amplifiers power and earth terminals and play a heavy bass track on say 1/2-3/4 volume. If the voltage reads lower than say 11v on bass notes then its more than likely the power cable isnt big enough and the voltage drop is causing the amp to go into protection. You'll also notice when you upgrade the power/earth cables that you'll get more volume too.
further, if its staying in protection youve probably killed the amp with voltage drop
