I need a new box made for my 13.5" JL's
im sick of the spl setup I built as its crap for music and takes up my entire boot.
is anyone in brisbane able to build me a new box possibly a weekend project over a couple of beers for around $150???, might be able to squeeze a bit more into the budget... does not have to have a flashy finish, just good quality work for nice sealed box.
this is kind of what im after ( may have to slightly change angles to get it to suit )
JL Audio: Products
thats designed to suit my subs im not worried about it being carpeted
post back if you can help me!
you could most probably get a pre made box from autobarn already made for that cash couldn't you?

try emailing this guy subsonicpro@three.com.au assuming he still does it
im using one of his enclosures now - 2x12in 18mm mdf, carpeted. he seems to know what hes on about and his product is sturdy and should be quite below your budget.
problem is with pre-built boxes are they are all 10/12/15 in I have never seen a pre fab box for 13.5" drivers cheers ra1d ill give him an email
Just get a 12" box and cut out the holes to suit, most likely it wont be the recommended internal volume but this shouldnt make too much of an audible difference.
Have you considered re-tuning the port/s to suit SQ, or is it the fact it takes up too much room more of an issue?
the room is a big issue now and I didnt really make the box to last its only 15mm mdf and has around 150 screws and no more nails holding it together I would destroy the box trying to retune the port
and yeah it makes a huge difference with the size as these drivers are HUGE and need a fairly large space to work well
forgot to add Ra1d can you post some pics of it if its not too much problems thankshe relationship between the parameters of the speaker being used and the volume of air inside the enclosure dictates the performance of the sealed subwoofer system. By making the box larger, the air spring limits cone motion less and allows the system to play lower and with flatter overall response (lower Qtc) at the expense of power handling. If you go too large, however, you begin to lose efficiency in order to gain the additional low frequency extension. By making the box smaller, the air spring exerts more control and limits cone motion at low frequencies which increases power handling but does not let the system play as low and produces a more peaked response (higher Qtc.) For any speaker competently designed for sealed box applications there is a range of enclosure volumes that will produce good high-fidelity sound. Changing the enclosure volume within that range can fine-tune the response to suit the tastes of the listener and/or the acoustic properties of the vehicle.
also has anyone reverse mounted subs in a sealed box ... whats the sound difference like this could save me some enclosure space if it sounds good still
I have reversed mounted (inverted) many subs...sounds absolutely fine and as you say you get more internal volume, very useful if your custom building a fibreglass sub enclosure that mould to the contours of the vehicle and simply dont have the depth to mount the woofer
In your case you may hear the difference, you may not. Also reversing the polarity either at the head-unit (some have this setting) or at the speaker side of the amp may or may not benefit you, just try either one and see which sounds better. The only problem i can see is on the wiring side of things.....you'll have wires already on the outside of the box so you'll have to get creative with that or just drill a hole in the box near each woofer and run the cabling through to the terminal block etc. (seal the hole from the inside ofcourse).
wire is no problem i have some 4mm solid copper tube I can bend around that I will use for asthetics and the slash series of JL amps I use all have reverse polarity option per channel so that sounds sweet .... now I just need someone who is handy with MDF to build me a box!
Yep that would do nicely.......where abouts are you? im sure i could suggest![]()
im out bayside in brisbane.. victoria point to be exact
