    Default static am/fm radio

    hey all

got the amp back today, no issue found. connected it after completely re-wiring my car and still no luck

the head unit is modified by phreddy for RCA out and ipod in. with CD playing or ipod playing crystal clear, but turn the FM on and it becomes static.

The strange part is currently i have the standard holden speakers connected to the head unit via the stock cable.

When I connect the amp, that is just turn it on - no rcas connected, no speakers connected, just power, I get static through my speakers even tho their not attached to the amp.

Disconnect power from the amp and wallah, crystal clear reception.

Obviously something is going on with my antenna. This is the same issue I was having initially, I have since swapped power and RCA cables (so power is now down drivers side, rcas down passenger).

    Any suggestions??

hmm well after putting some thought into it I decided to disconnect the remote wire and just run a 10cm piece from the remote on the amp to the + on the amp

Gave that a whirl and most of the stations came good. With what cables do people usually run the remote wire, ie with the RCAs or with the power? Ive run mine with the power, maybe this is the issue?

The other interesting thing is the instructions for the amp say to run the remote wire to the accessory wire on the ignition switch. I thought instructions usually said to run it to the remote wire on the head unit?

Im getting so close now but I only have one day left to find the issue or revert back to standard audio for the time being

problem is Ive seperated them, problem exists still.

The static exists without RCAs being connected, they can be out of the car completely. Power can be one side of the car, remote the other, it still exists. Connect the RCAS put in a CD or Ipod and the static goes away. Plus its being staticy through speakers that arent even connected to the amp ... Weird

Sounds to me like the problem is with the remote wire, if its acceptable when the remote is connected to the + terminal then maybe try running the remote off the ACC wire of the head-unit.

    Weird problem tho.

nah it does it with the remote wire connected directly to the amps positive as well.

I've been out there for one last hit out, moved some wiring and tried bits and pieces. The static has gone in most stations, or its down to an acceptable level anyway. I'll see how it goes this week when I'm back at work driving the thing every morning and afternoon.
