    Default Moulded subwoofer mounts

I'm sure plenty of you guys have seen these, or something similar before:
NEW VY VZ Holden Commodore Right SIde - eBay Subwoofers, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 22-Oct-08 20:34:03 AEST)

They sound strong, and by that I mean that anything that size with 5kg of fiberglass in it has got to be built like a tank! (though I expect there's some MDF in there too)

The look like they'd have ****-weak SQ though? Has anyone had or heard something like these? Did the rear quarter panel fall off after a couple of weeks?

Although I don't know that brand in particular there are a couple of things to bear in mind.

Access to spare wheel? It looks ok, but is it? I've seen people fall into the trap before. ****, I've even invested a lot of time into building some only to have the tyre not accessible.

SQ from these units CAN be pretty damn good. CAN also be pretty poor. Sometimes when these are made in a rush, the box is not entirely sealed and will leak like crazy.

Yes, they are strong I wouldn't worry too much about the side panel falling off as you still mount it to the either the floor or sheet metal bracings behind that trim panel.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

Interesting to know you can potentially get decent SQ from them. I'm not actually planning on getting any myself (I have a ported MTX box I'm quite happy with ) but I often see them if I'm on an eBay surfing session and always wonder.

It's a good point about the spare wheel, I suppose it would depend a lot on how it was attached to the chassis and/or what tools you lug around with you! I know with my box in I can't lift the tray high enough to get the wheel out, I have to disconnect the sub and put it to one side. Pretty annoying if you're out and about! Lucky I always carry a Leatherman around for just these occasions

ive got one, have had one for 12 months. (Karatan version)

Not too worried about compeitition style sound i just wanted to get rid of the stupid large box that kept sliding around.

why would you guys be bolting them to the body? Mine just slots in and is held in position by its weight and some high strength velcro to make sure it stays there, which it does especially during cruises.

As for the spare wheel what do you guys with sub boxes do? when I had a box it was the worst thing. all Ive done with this one is set it up to 2x push in plugs, just unplug it from behind the box, slide it out, put it on the ground, roof, or even slide it up against the back seat and I have no issues. I'm often climbing into the boot because I also keep spare globes and oil/fluids there for cruises.

lol, dude, sure you can use velcro to hold it in, not a problem. But as a professional in the industry, if I charge someone several hundred dollars for one of these plus installs.....they want a little more then velcro.

All I was refering to in the instance of the spare tyre was more...don't be surprised if you still cant get to it.

Do you mean the sub or the box? I had (still have actually, but don't use) one of those red 1200w Sony Xplod's. Was a little tinny and harsh for my taste, but it's at the budget end of the sub spectrum and as with most things, you get what you pay for.

Glad you're happy with yours Torquative, sounds like it does what is says on the box
