Default Moving rear speakers to front

    Hi guys,

I have two sets of 6.5" Alpine Type R splits (one set in front and one in back), I was wondering what my advantages and disadvantages would be if I moved the rear speakers into the front (so I have to sets in the front & none in the back). It's mainly only myself and sumtimes my girlfriend in the car so there's no one in the back.

How would I go about mounting a pod onto the door? (I have a VS S2 Calais), I know I can drill holes into the door trim.... but.... If I sell the car I'm not sure everyone would like pods mounted there so I would need to take them off - leaving holes (not good). Anyone got ideas?

Let me know if it's a bad idea or not & suggestions on the pod.

easiest way is to tune your head unit to pump more sound to the back of the car then you will hear all 4.

Or just disconnect the two back speakers cous its still gunna sound mono if their all up the front

Are the rear speakers in the parcel shelf or back doors?

I don't think people will mind the pods on the doors as long as it looks tasteful, call it a custom install

    Disadvantage:

i personally like the nice even sound throughout the car, no matter who or how many people in the car.

Seems like a decent amount of work for something that won't really make much difference to the sound quality, seeing as they are the same speakers. Maybe if you got a set of high-end speakers and lowend it would

Hmm... I get where you guys are coming from. The reason I wanted to do this is because I can only hear the front speakers and if I turn the fronts down to hear the backs more, wouldnt that be pointless in having good speakers? because it's not using the power they are rated for?

I'm kind of looking for more dB volume upfront. My speakers are rated for 75RMS.

Whats the output on your head unit? If its 50w x 4 it should be ok to adjust the front speakers and still crank it

Ah sorry, I forgot to mention that the splits are running of a amp. I actually think the speakers are 70RMS and the amp running is 75RMS.

play with the amp a bit, tune the rears to pump them up a bit.

4 of the exact same speakers. should sound nice and even

    **

or put the pods in and install some nice 6, 9" speakers in the rears instead.

Yeh! that's kinda what I was after !! are they 6.5" splits? But you had to drill screws into the trim to keep the pod up ye?

they are 6.5" VR's in the factory and 6" VR's in the pods

I used a super strong d/s tape for the moment to hold the pods on. they hold on no worries and I slam the doors all the time they proberbly should be bolted on though I will get to it one day

I also had to use a spacer on the pods so the huge magnet didnt want to go thru the door trim lol

you can see the spacer here ( dont mind my messy wires :P work in progress )

it does stick out a fair way from the door but you get used to it pretty quickly

I hate the wreckers :P they cost too much :P had to pay $80 for a second hand switch for my power windows :P im sure they'll charge 200 for some trims or prob more :P don't want to buy door trims.

I have to measure to see how much space I have, because the speakers I want to put there are 6.5", and spacers will most likely need to be added because the Type R magnets are huge aswell... had to mutate the door trim pod to get them in because of the fricken window, swear it was a mission to get them in.

nice setup, but i would imagine for me being a tall person, would get annoyed with the pods hitting my knees. YOu can make up some awesome pods to fit 2 splits in the doors. The advantage of having 2 in the front is basically more sound and loudness. But the disadvantage is the speakers can cancel out each other. You could end up missing certain frequecies. Although that does depend on what angles the two woofers are mounted. having two mount on the same angle would reduce cancellation to a minimum.

i reckon have a fiddle and see if you can get the sound you like. as for not using the power... my car could do 230kmh..... doesn't mean i needed to.

Sometimes it is about the type of sound than the dB it hacks out.

WTF is the purpose of a setup like that? theres a perfectly good speaker pod below your one and it doesnt look crap and out of place

Are you running a sub? If you are, you will drown out the bass as the front imaging will be too bright for front staging!

I have splits in the doors and speakers in the dash and I find it way to bright with front staging. And I'm also running a sub.

My speakers have a 3" depth to them (which sucks), you recon something like Velcro would work? velcro the whole pod and the door. or you recon a couple holes in a door would make no difference really?

I'm gon do this either way. I gotta experiment to learn & I dont have the money to buy some better speakers.
