If i was you, i wouldn't keep a PS3 in a car. Since the PS3 is a bulky unit, you'll have a bit of trouble placing it somewhere in the car where no one will see it.
    My car audio:

CD tuner: Alpine CDA-9884E with Ipod interface
    Front speakers: Alpine Type R SPR-17S 6.5 component speakers, powered by a avant-garde 23dxi 2 channel amplifier - 2x51 watt RMS
Rear speakers: pioneer coaxials connected to tuner
Subwoofer: Alpine Type R SWR-1222D 12" 2 ohm dual voice coil 500 watts RMS powered by a response precision 2x150 watts RMS 2 channel amp bridged to 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms

If you could hook up your steering wheel and pedals to the PS2 and use it to play Gran Turismo, that would be sweet!

everything in my ute is typr r alpines mate and they are awesome. my old ute had just alpine splits for a while and they sounded awesome with no sub!
next door neighbour has type s splits and they go pretty hard too

back to the PS3 issue though... id go for PS2, much easier to hide, slimmer, and not such a kick in the shin if it does get stolen(touch wood)

sounds like a good set-up mate,as for the ps2 yea might be better, sucks as i only sold my ps2 slim just b4 i got my ps2,might just get a 2nd hand 1 from cash converters or somewhere,& as ya said dont care if it gets stolen.had a close call last night mate had the crusty demons dvd going & the cops pulled me over at the hub, they can get me for not having it earthed out to the park brake,& must say what a stupid law,but lucky it was only a rbt tho,im sure its because i got QLD plates on,i always get pulled over

Ive been is the same situation but i didn't close the lid when they pulled me over and i had the fast and the furious movie going at the time. then he politely asked me to turn the movie off and gave me a warning about the speed i was doing not knowing of this law.

Hey ive just put a ps3 in the car also with a 22" LCD screen in the boot looks out of this world i can have it on the fount screen or the rear screen, but the only down side having the ps3 in the car if i want to use it the car has to be going ( I get about 2 movies to the gallon). I only put the ps3 in the car if i am going to use it. ive had a x box 360 in the car b4 and that was even harder to get going even with the car going. but its good to hear that you are happy with the ps2.

I have also got some pics on the install just check out my ride to view them.

    same headunit as me :P

I just ran a 4 way AV selector into the unit and I can run a $30 digital tv tuner / ps2 / tv out on camera + phone in to the screen, but its a pain in the ass to get good digital reception unless your parked up high on a hill

ps if you are on good terms with your local JB hifi have a listen to the JL VR 650 splits, all I can say about these is awesome. got 6 of the VR series in my ride now lol

no problems at all with the unit, only feature it lacks is touch screen dvd menu select, for some reason they never implimented that feature, but touch screen works well for everything else, never skips cd's with really high bass volumes that would have to be its best feature by far .. also having 1000+ mp3's on a dvd is great
