    Default Roof mounted dvd troubles

I have a roof mounted dvd player in my car that doesnt play dvds. When I first test-wired everything up it worked fine, and of course as soon as I put the head lining back in it didn't.

The unit gets power, because the lights on it work, and it loads and ejects dvds fine. 90% of the time though, I get no picture on the monitor, and the other 10% it is just a white screen. The other 7in screen gets no signal from it at all, although it did when I had it test fitted.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? I'm not keen on pulling the roof-lining out again only to find it is an easy fix.

I have tried using different power sources and earths, so all I can think of is that there is a problem with the unit itself

That's what I am down to as well, just wanting to double check before I take it to a pro as the last resort

hrmm just a thought, do you get sound at all? how about the handbrake-switch from the unit, how did you hook that up?

got me thinking - basic - but are there two lots of inputs and you have them in the wrong ones? or wrong holes? Might not be anything like my unit but mine has a reverse camera cable that when selected reverse it would automatically switch to the camera.

Probably off the mark but i feel your pain at pulling it out!

it is unusual for it to work when you tested it but not impossible for it to be faulty, it could also be that you have done something while putting the headlining back maybe screwed it in too hard and broken someting in the process.

I don't get sound either...well there is a very quiet hiss/crackle off the FM transmitter but I assume that is normal. I actually haven't tried it through the IR headphones. No sound is getting sent to the front screen either.

The unit with the player is roof-mounted so it has no handbrake switch, and neither does the front screen.

I have tried both inputs on the front screen and neither get signal. I can't change anything on the roof-monitor coz nothing comes up on the screen. Have tried pushing heaps of buttons on the remote with no luck either.

Thats another option, but I think I will go for professional help (lol) before pulling it apart again.

Also, I forgot about it before but there were a few red lights (or maybe just one power light) on the unit that were on when it worked, that don't come on not at all anymore.
It did get a quite hot at one point with the car getting kicked out of the shed and sitting in the hot sun over that hot patch we had. It is a dark car and the unit gets pretty warm even just parked at the shops for half an hour. Is it possible that has damaged it?

very doubtful that the heat has damaged it.
