Hey guys, i recently purchased a sound system for my VS Commodore and im on a pretty strict budget.
So far i have
- Pioneer Head Unit, new model with ipod direct support at 50w x4. Cost me $200 down from $320 at JB Hi-Fi
- 4 x Pioneer 6" speakers, 180W Max, 30W Nominal. ($130 for 4, heavily discounted from a mate who works at Repco)
- 15" Sony Xplode Subwoofer, 1300w max, not sure what its RMS is. (Second Hand)
I bought the 6" speakers because i want the sub to run all the bass, and I've heard that Subs sound better without 6x9's.
I dont have the sub installed yet and have the speakers running off the head unit, I was considering buying a monoblock amp to run the sub and a 2 or 4 channel amp for the speakers.
I would greatly appreciate everyones suggestions as too what amps i should look into, at a reasonable price, and what RMS figures i should be looking at for my system. Excuse me for being a bit lost with the whole car audio side of things
Any suggestions will be great, cheers.
Well the speakers are only 30wrms each, so not really worth amping in my opinion. They'll get 20wrms each from the headunit. Though an aftermarket amp will give a better sound, but they're not sound quality speakers anyway.
The sub would be around 380wrms-400wrms going off their current 1300w max subs. A 400wrms mono would do the job nicely.
yep get new 6" splits for the front that will handle 100wrms as the ones you have dont really need amping. Get your current 30w speakers put them in the rear, the sony sub isnt that powerfull I believe its around 300w rms so you dont need a huge amp to power it.
for that setup then you could use a 4x100w RMS amp, 2 channels for the fronts, bridge the otehr 2 channels for the sub and run your rears of the headunit
