    Default front speakers distorting

im running 6 inch jaycar response splits in my VR. lately theyve both started to play up. when running at a normal volume, they start to crackle and distort very badly. what would cause both to play up? i cant tell if its the woofer or the tweeter causing the problem. would it be the speakers, the wiring, or the headunit that could be the problem?

are they on an amplifier? any particular cds that do it? have u got stock speakers u can put on there just to check if its wiring or speakers?

few ideas there, sounds like wiring because a tough set of speakers like that shouldnt fry running from the head unit.
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.

yeah theyre not amped so i dont see why they would be damaged. im leaning towards the wiring too. will try dig up some speakers somewhere and plug them in

cool, just seems really wierd that both are going wierd...whats the chance that both speakers and/or both sets of wiring stuff up at the same time...definitely check with other speakers.

Actually, they are more likely to play up without an amp behind them, if you like to crank it loud.

You MAY have started to burn out the coil.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

Underpowering will be the death of thee.

What RMS output are they? If you crank it up on a 50x4w headunit, only 50wPMPO if you're lucky, then you're gonna be underpowering and it will have been clipping, not distorting. Quickest way to kill a pair of speakers, short of 240v wall sockets
