the over current light on my amp is flasshing which indicates i have a problem...
is it a the ground wire isnt grounding properly and therefore theres current that it cant properly dispense.
or is it cos the amp cant cope that amount of power....
the same thing haoppened when hooked both subs up then switched it only using one sub....
Did it do it after you listened to it???

We'll need a few more details:
1. What amplifier?
2. Power and earth cable sizes?
3. What sub/s is the amp running and how are they wired?
okaaaay welll i it happens when i turn the volume up past like 10...
anywhooo im running 2 kicker cv-r's altho ive taking the speaker cables out for one sub and it still has the same problem off of a sony Xplod XM-754HX 4 channel amp.
im using a stinger 8 gauge power kit which includes power cable, remote wire, ground cable. im also using a set of stinger rca cables. initially i had the rca's and power cable running together and a wierd noise (someone called it interference) was appearing when i had the bass up. i changed the side the rca's were on and the sound was still there. then i decided to use a mates old amp to see if we could locate the problem....which is where im up to now with the over current problem....
1. How many watts (rms) are the Kickers and how many watts (rms) is the amp??
2. check the quality of the rca cable running from the deck to the amp.
3. Check to make sure that the earth wire is grounded properly to bare metal.
4. And also, like holdenboy said, how are the subs wired? are they wired in bridged mode?

You will have to tell us where the amp is grounded to, and if you sanded it back to bare metal before attaching the earth. Did this problem occur straight after installing the amp or did it take a while?
itss grounded to a bolt sticking out bout 10 cms away fomr the boot light. ive put it between 2 metal washers and then i just tightened the nut. i didnt sand back the metal part seeing as the washers arnt coated in anything? its occured now on both of the crappy amps i've used as soon as ive installed them.
the subs are wired into channel 1 and channel 2...as for being bridged i haaave no idea what that isss soo i need a explanation!
I would try earthing it out at a different location, maybe the bolt which holds the seatbelt in at the bottom, and sand back the area to bare metal....put the ring terminal on the metal and then the seatbelt on top. This way your getting good contact with the metal, and not just the contact the bolt has to the metal.
yeaaaaah ill give that a try now
changed the grounding point and i even sanded back the paint annd im still getting the same result....over current
OK then what size cable are you using? e.g. 8awg.
Also, where did you ground it too?
lol, need to tell us the subs specs, AS IN are they dual voice coil and what is the impedance of the woofers. MAybe you have wired them wrong because you say you dont know what bridging is, which is converting 2 channels into one. I think your running the woofers at an impedance that the amps cant handle.
ive grounded it to the bolt thats for the baby seat holder in the boot....im using 8 guage power/grounding cable...and the kicker cv'r subs are dual 2-ohm voice coils which means 4 per sub? ive got them wired using speaker at the back of the sub it has 4 points to connect the speaker cable ( 2 positive 2 negative) per sub. ive got the cablle connected to both points per postive/negative... if that makes sense? so i guess im using both voice coils per sub?
So you have both positives wired together and both negatives wired together, then the wire runs out to the amp?
If so then youre running the amplifier at a 1 ohm load per channel, clearly this is why the amp is going into over current, damn....shouldve just ask you that in the first place
What you need to do is wire it like below:
haha ill re wire them asapp and let you know how it goes.....![]()
in the picture the two points that wired together...that dont lead back to the amp are wired using what cable. as in i know i use speaker cable but like do i use just the negative cable or the positive cable? or both and then just join them in the middle?
just split the speaker wire in half and use that.
yeh but then where do i join them or just leave them hanging there?
I not sure what you mean, wire it up like the above diagram.
have a look at this it should give you a better idea

example is something like this?
yehhhh whats the bridged wire? just postive wire or just negative wire or what? or is both and then to join them i just cut back the plastic coating and then wrap them around each other?
thats where im confused i didnt think u could connect a negative and postive point together?
haha okkaay! im gonna go try it soo ill post back here sooon.
The "bridged" wire is joining the 2 voice coils together in series, just use a piece of speaker wire.
You can do this to speakers, trust me....wire it up like the diagram and you will have bass![]()

haha welll....it isnt quite the bass im after. ive got a mate bringing round his new kicker 5 channel amp sooo were gonna see if i can get better sounding thump then that of a sony xplod amp....the way the subs are wired now, is that the onyl way they can be done or is there other ways?
