Sorry if this has been posted already,
can i use the little pocket bit in the dash, just below the stereo compartment for another HU?
for example, a DVD HU then a screen in the actual stereo part?
screens with DVD players in them are pretty pricey from what i have found, ive just bought a VS statesman and i would like DVD..
cheers
Theres a little bit of work needed before you can fit a unit in the bottom section:
Obviously you'll need to cut out the pocket, but the main problem is getting enough depth so the unit will sit flush with the dash.
yeah, i understand what you mean......it CAN be done, but unless you're fairly experienced with fitting stereos etc. and are confident you can do it, i wouldnt try it.
Maybe try hitting up a few specialist car audio stores in youre area if you dont wanna stuff it up.
ive got that setup in my vs atm. im actually taking it out soon but if i get time i'll pull my dash apart n take some photos for ya. it doesnt look like that cut anythin out except the back of that pocket. it is on an angle though(prob not even 10 deg), dunno if that makes a difference?

Thats how I have the stereo & screen setup in my calais, stereo in bottom and screen up top in original stereo hole, will post a pic later
I've found that buying a screen and player seperately often ends up more expensive than a 2-DIN unit, and there's a lot more wiring and setup involved with 2 units. I've been using 2-DIN units for a while now, and the integration of screen and player is great.
I have a JVC 2-DIN DVD player for sale on eBay at the moment - has an SD card reader and also plays MP3/WMA on DVD so you can have 4.5GB songs on one disc. Going for around $400....cheap as chips for the features you get.
Its a little harder to mount a 2 DIN unit in a VP-VS commodore.
Used that spot for a dvd player in my exec, had a fold out screen at the top. didn't want to damage the original pocket so i got another one from the wreckers for about $10. I cut the back off the pocket with a hacksaw leaving enough to fix one of the mesh CD player surrounds, just pop-rivit it in place.
