i have two mtx terminators in a terminator box and was wondering what would push these subs the best. the specs on the subs are
max power 1200 watts
rms power 400 watts (i think)
mtx mono block amp
MTX Terminator Amplifiers - TN250/1
OR
Sony xplod 2/1 channel amp.
Sony XM-ZR1252B ZR Series 2/1 Channel Amplifier
thanks
sony is crap with car audio go the terminator
Eureka styles!
sony used to be ****, but there getting better..... doesn't mean there fantastic but better
i personally wouldnt go either of them, the mtx is only 100wrms and the sony is a 2 channel but is putting out 125..
so if you HAD to go one of those, i would suggest the sony because you can bridge it and get 340rms....
but like i said, get something else... bigger and better![]()
1000rms or 2000rms would be ideal depending on your budget
so if i bridged the sony amp to 340w rms i would just about be getting everything out of the 400w rms mtx terminators? is it bad to bridge the amp? and how do i do that?
You wont be getting half the potential of these woofers if you run 340wrms into both subs.AsLuke 0011 Said.....1000wrms or 2000wrms, depending on your budget.
Also, what impedance are the subwooofers, i.e. 4 ohm?
umm im kinda a newb to subs and im not sure if its 2 or 4 ohms..maybe this will help? MTX Terminator - TNP212D Amplified Bass System
if i bridge the sony amp to these subs will they still hit alright?
Tried to find the subs, couldnt find em, but didnt look for long. ok i did, blind much yes\
If they are DVC 4ohm u can run both in parallel get the load down to 1ohm, then go to jaycar buy a 1000w for it.
If there only SVC u can only get it to a 2ohm load, then the jaycar amp will only put out 600rms...
OK these are 2ohm, must be SVC wired in paralle.
Id say get sum new subs n amp
You couldnt "bridge" the sony amp to run these speakers, the amp would not be stable running 2 ohm bridged. Anyways, 360wrms isnt enough to get the full potential from these subs.
Go to your local car audio retailer, be it JB Hi Fi or Strathfield etc. Ask for a monoblock that puts out 500wrms+ at 2 ohm impedance. I would imagine they could find you one for under $400, your other option is to buy a Response monoblock which would give your subs 600wrms total (ideal). These are $399.
Jaycar AA0460 Digi mono block 1000wrms@1ohm, 600wrms@2ohm, should pick one up for $350
ahh id really like to buy a bigger amp but im short on cash. i bought a sony xplod package and a mtx terminator package. i bought two packages because a friend wanted one package. im keeping the mtx subs and idk what amp to keep but it has to be one of the two. i could run the terminator amp at 2 ohms at 200wrms and 100wrms at 4 ohms and the sony amp at 2 ohms at 175wrms and 125wrms at 4 ohms.ill be honest im a big newb to this and this is my first system and im pretty confussed by this stuff. so i guess the biggest question here is what will sound better/be louder/give more base. and would it hurt anything to run the amp at 2 ohms? thanks alot for stayin with me on this one guys.
Ahh, can you tell me the model number of the amps or a link?
its in the first post in this thread.
thanks
OK, sorry i forgot they were there lol.
You can only run the Sony amp in stereo, that is one sub of one channel and the other sub off the other channel. It is not stable at 2 ohm bridged, also it is a class A/B amplifier which isnt as efficent as class D. In the end you'll be feeding each sub 125wrms.
As far as the terminator amp goes it is a dedicated class D monoblock amplifier, designed to run subwoofers and can run at 2 ohm (both subs). It dosent put out as much power, giving each sub 100wrms (you wont notice the difference between 100 and 125wrms)....although it will be more efficent (draw less power from your battery).
My choice if they were my only options would be the terminator. Although using the Sony for the meantime and then when you have the cash to get a more powerful monoblock you could use the Sony to run speakers, with the terminator you couldnt.
Hope i havent confused you![]()
could i run the terminator at 2 ohms putting out 200w rms to each sub?
No, the terminator produces 200wrms x1 at 2ohm, which is how they are wired inside your box.
ohh so i could only do that into one sub?
No.....it will give BOTH subwoofers a total of 200wrms, which equals 100wrms to each subwoofer.
Does you subwoofer box have 2 positives and 2 negative terminals, or just 1 of each?
lol k thanks..wow ima newb. and yyet it has two pos. and two neg.
So the subwoofer box has two positives and two negatives?
yeah theres 4 little things that can be pluged into.
I would imagine the subs are 4 ohm each, you may have to join the two positives together and join the two negatives together (positive will be red, negative will be black).
Although if you look closely at the 4 "little things" there may be a peice of gold plated metal joining them already. Can you use / do you have a multimeter?
