Default which amp for 12 "jl w7

hey guys im stuck between choosing an amp.

    my two choices are

    1. JL Audio 500/1
    2. ALPINE MRD-M1000

    they will be running a 12" W7

    the specs are as follows
    Jl
    4 0hm
    605 watts @ 14 volts; 601 watts @ 12.8 volts; 591 watts @ 10.5 volts

    2 ohm
    620 watts @ 14 volts; 604 watts @ 12.8 volts; 598 watts @ 10.5 volts

    alpine
    500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
    1000 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms

any info or experience on either amp. will be appreciated
or your opinion on what is best.

Just get the JL. They are basically all in all as good as each other, just get the JL for matching sake

And for the record, the 12" W7's are ****ing retardedly loud subs. They go really really well for a 12". They produce some monster bass in ported enclosures.

Do a quick search of the JL amp i think you'll find nothing but possitive previews. I'd be going for that one.

Go the Alpine if you want maximum output as you'll be getting nearly an extra 150wrms into the sub using the Alpine amp, getting the sub in its 'optimal range' as JL say

Having said that, if you just want the better overall amp and don't mind how much power you're pushing into the sub then get the JL amp as im not a fan at all of Alpine amps and JL amps are nicer overall.

I'd go JL, because first I reckon their gear is all tits, and second, manufacturers often make their gear sound good together. Match it up because it was often designed to work best that way.

If i had the cash, i'd forget JL etc, i'd go Focal, Alpine Type X or slightly cheaper, Rockford Fosgate.

For amps? I didn't know Alpine made 'Type X' amps I also didn't think Focal made an amp that runs any higher than 400rms @ 4ohm?

I think its interesting to note the JL amp has very little power difference between 4 and 2 ohm....certainly nothing audible.

The power ratings are not so different, and i would imagine you'd only get a small gain by going with the Alpine over the JL.

Mate if its going to be a good, neat install and both the sub and amp are going to be shown in the boot....i'd go with the JL, as said above they're nice looking amps.

Fair enough, didn't seem in that context is all as its a thread on amps. Just assumed it was relevant the question asked by the OP.
