hey im new to this forum stuff so yer,
i've just replaced my stock speakers in my vy wagon with PIONEER TS-A1682s (each are 280 watts max) all round, and the differnence isn't noticable at all from original, but what i wanto know is that should i get a PIONEER head unit (DEH-P4050UB i was looking at) to get the best fom the speakers,
OR, should i go for a PIONEER amp (GM-6300F)???
im leaning towards the head unit so far but dunno what to get at this time,
but i will be getting subs later on down the track so i'll be needing the amp then anyways.
cheers,
Get the head unit first. That will improve the sound quality, then if you want later, add an amplifier
allright then thanks, what i was thinking anyway to do
Are you still running them from the factory head unit?
yer i am atm,is that a problem lol
yes the stock headunit's audio output is not that powerful or of good quality.
oh ok i didnt think it was that low lol
then a pioneer 200 watter will do the trick then,
but what im gonna do is get the head unit aswell as a pioneer amp now,you reckon its the right thing to do???
yeah thats what i would do head unit wont really make a difference with the amp cause the amps doin all the work lol but unless u have the outputs for the stock headunit u need a new one. i would buy a new one anyway cause its always good to have MP3 discs btw thats 200watt over 4 speakers so its only 50 wat per speaker still lots better than the stock unit lol. but in any case lol deck and amp will be heaps bettermake sure u get the right amp though
ah ok then thanks,
well i am gonna get a pioneer GM-6300F for the amp,n a pioneer DEH-P4050UB for the head unit n run the speakers off of the amp,i think it'll b good at a guess :S lol
The Pioneer head-unit will provide a little more sound quality and tuneability (make it sound the way you like). Most aftermarket units say "50w x 4" but thats maximum, they produce around 20w x 4 "RMS" which is a more realistic rating. You're on the right track by considering to purchase an external amplifier, the GM-6300F is a good quality 4 channel amp which produces 60wrms x 4.
ok thanks holdenboy,
the other thing i gotta pick some1s brains is would the GM-6300F suit the speakers ive installed (as stated above),or doesnt it matter?
That amp produces 60wrms x 4. Thats about ideal for those speakers, as it has a high pass filter (this filters out the low bass which your speakers wont like too much) which is ideal for your setup. Set these to around 40-60 hz and they'll play louder as opposed to having them play the full frequency range.
Will you be installing the amplifier yourself or getting a shop / pro to do it?
ah allright sweet,thanks for that!
I was thinkin of having a crack at it myself because it cant be that complicated to do,just technical lol but i can get some help from others who have done it before tho!
is there a problem with doing it yourself???
No not really, as ive said before just take your time remove and re-installing the interior panels etc, also running the wiring.
Run the power cable down one side of the car (inside) and run the RCAs down the opposite. Earth the amp to a good section of metal and sand back the area to bare metal before attaching the earth terminal.
listen to what holdenboy said run power and RCA down different sides dont get lazylol if u do them down the same side you may start to hear engine noises through your speakers. (although ive been told you can have a 50mm clearance between the 2 so yeah but wires move so i wouldnt do it that way)
lol that could be quiet interesting having the engine noises through ya speakers tho!
ok well i wont be getting lazy with the wires, because im some1 who rathers taking there time with something and getting it right the first time instead of stuffin around down the track! lol
well i also purchased the gear today from JB HI FI,i ended up getting the pioneer DEH-P7050BT head unit, because of getting bluetooth for an extra $20, and the pioneer GM-6300F amp, just waiting for the head unit to come in now!
also im curious to where to put the amp???
i was thinking under the passenger seat, what do you all reckon???
(its a vy wagon btw)
you can put them anywhere man. under the seat or I had a mate in his vs wagon who bolted it in the very back just to the side.

Under the front seat ius a good option, although there may not be enough room (height wise). Also mounting amps under the seat isnt the most ideal spot, as it dosent provide great air circulation.
On a positive note, you'll only need 3m RCA cables and about 4 metres of power cable. You have two choices as far as wiring the speakers to the amp;
1) You can join speaker cables to the speaker wires at the head-unit when your installing the Pioneer unit, then just run the cables to the amp (make sure you mark each cable saying what speaker it is).
2) You can "tap" into the speaker wires before they go into each door (in the kick panels for the fronts and in the b pillar below where the seat belt is). Have a look at the wiring colours thread on here and it will tell you which colour the wires are...a BIG help haha. You'll just have to solder and tape up each connection and then mark each cable and run them to wherever you decide to mount the amp.
where do u plan on putting the amp for the subs that u plan on getting personally i would put it in the boot on one side and than when u get the other amp on the other side i think that would look good maybe even a fake wall of somekind
aaahhhhhh i see, then under the seat may not be such a great idea tho! good and bad sides to it! but i like the idea of bolting it to the back side tho aswell! (fark thats gonna need some long cables lol)
well i will check out the wiring colours as i can see how itll help! lol
btw thanks for the input too fellas! greatly appreciated!
well i havent decided about the subbies n amp where im gonna put them just yet actually, probly have each amp on each side wall n then a pair of subs just behind the back seat facing the rear door or something so far! (dunno really lol)
but what i wanna try and find is a pair of pioneer 15" subs!,thatll be real nice i reckon! lol
Even a pair of GOOD 12s will be enough. But as stated above its most important you give them decent power. 1000wrms is a minimum.
How much room are you willing to "sacrifice" in the cargo area? I say this because if your answer is as little as possible then sealed is basically your only option. If you can spare say a little under half the space then a ported box is the way to go. 2 x 12s, 4 cu.ft. box with a single 6" port (even 2 x 4") and 1000wrms will blow you away. If its tuned properly it will sound just as good as a sealed box, being that you can play all types of music and it'll sound good, but you'll get the added low end extension that a sealed box lacks.
