Arrow VG to VS ute Subwoofer enclosure with measurements (D.I.Y)

After many searches over the net, looking for a sub enclosure to fit into the cavity beside the fuel tank of my ute, and with out much luck. I decided to design a enclosure, to suit my 12 inch sub.

This enclosure would be ideal for a shallow mounted sub. You should be able to use a 10 inch sub for this enclosure as well. Just make sure the sub you have or purchase is suited to a 31 Litre enclosure!

Feel free to use this for a sticky as it would be ideal!

    What you will need

    $60
    18mm M.D.F
    Two G clamps
    Jigsaw
    Drill
Piece of 4 by 2 (to use as a guide for the jigsaw to get a clean straight cut)
    Wood screws
    Liquid nails
    All purpose silicon
    Sample pot of paint
    Can of clear spray paint

Get bunnings to cut the M.D.F to size for you. That way, all you will need to do is cut the front and side pieces at a 128 degree angle.

    Plans

    Completed with Silicon

After being painted and sub installed

Yes I know the sub is upside down, as the speaker wire terminals stopped the sub from fitting in properly. lol

    Subwoofer Fitted (If useful)

Product Name: FEW-12 FUSION ENCOUNTER SUBWOOFER
    VAS 100 L
    QTS .343
    QMS 4.155
    QES .374
    RMS Power 200 Watts
    Peak Power 400 Watts
    Sens (1W/1M) 91dB
    Xmax (Pk to Pk) 22.5mm
    Xmax (1 way) 11mm
    Freq. Response 23Hz - 3KHz
    Fs 27Hz
    Voice Coil 2" Kapton SVC
    Impedence 4 ohms
    Mounting Diameter: 10.09" / 277mm
    Mounting Depth: 5.02" / 127.5mm
    Outside Diameter: 12.24" / 311mm

    The Result

Sound Quality: The bass is much more deeper, due to better excursion.
The bass is now not muffled as the sub was originally placed behind the passenger seat, mounted in a custom enclosure, that I paid good money for!

Here is the tray cover, and underneath that is the fuel tank. Just undo all the screws to get inside.

Here is a pic of the enclosure sitting beside the fuel tank.

I put a bead of silicon around the edge and let it dry before screwing the lid down.

I also made sure the inside of the cavity was also sealed so the sub wouldn't get water damaged.

I had a enclosure behind the passanger seat before and passangers couldn't get comfortable due to the seat being to far forward. Not only that, the sound is muddy due to the sound being directly behind the seat, with out space in between.

Is it possible to adapt this and make a sealed enclosure with a port going straight into the cabin through one of those holes? Would make for better sealing imo, I'm just not sure how to go about setting a box up for that.

To make a ported enclosure with the sub specs that I used, you would need to make the enclosure larger. Which would be hard, as there is limited space as it is.

If you are looking at the enclosure side on, from bottom to top, it is a 128 degree right angle.

hey mate i like your design... thinking of using it... but i have a pioneer 12" and the diameter is 327mm (16mm bigger than the fusion one), and the depth is 164mm (36.5mm deeper than fusion). As i cant really see how close the magnet is to the side of the box, do you think this sub will fit? if not, do you have any suggestions to make it fit? such as changing the angle, etc. thanks in advance for your help.

Ok, if you make up another 18mm MDF ring for a spacer, it will give you a mounting depth of 170mm. I hope that helps you

with this design, only problem i see is the firewall holes bein open, i had the covers off once after fidling, and its bad on a hot day as realy hot air comes in from under the car, and number 2, the fuel smell aint real good at times either, id go for similar design, but with a glass mould of maximum size, with an enclosed 10" like a bandpass box i think they call it, a box in a box, and vent the box infront of the sub sealed against those holes, anyone tried this idea?

Mines a sealed box with 12 inch pioneer slimline ported straight into the cab works awsome fiddling with ideas to put another 1400w pioneer slimline next to the other one in there.
