Hi guys,
Just thought that I would add a few pictures and info on how I did my stereo upgrade. I have a VY SSII (manual). I have done extensive research on this forum and this is my summary of how to do this.
Firstyl I purchased a double DIN with single stereo facia from ASTsales (online). Is was a DNAAudio product - code WHF-102.It is for a VY/Monaro and was about $60.
Secondly I bought a harness adapter and European Aerial adapter plug. Both from Aerpro (through Repco). The codes were APP8PIO for the harness and the aerial bit was $12 - forgot the code!!!
PLEASE NOTE that the Harness app8pio is wired WRONG. My Pioneer unit kept losing memory and I found the Red and Yellow were crossed over (Ignition and Battery constant) I had to unclip these and swap them from the car side of the harness adapter only. Everything else was fine.
To remove the standard head unit - all I read was coat hangers. Most (not all) threads negleted to state that these MUST have a notch filed on the end to grip the darn unit!!! I ended up accidently pulling the face plate offa mine - it was destined for the bin anyways!!
Next you have to remove the metal cage that housed the orignal unit - I just pulled the lower lip forward a tad, then unscrewed the 2 screws holding it in, and the one right at the back of it.
Oh yeah there is a close up of how the unit clips to the cage.
Finally I purchase a Pioneer DEH3050UB head unit, put it into the aftermaket facia.
Connected the harness and aerial adapter and tried it before clipping it all in. All good. Shove it in. Turn it up.
I had added 110W pioneer 3-ways to the front doors and 240W 6x9 on parcel shelf previously.
Enjoy....
(Didn't know how to embed pics...sorry)

The Pioneer unit is great and the 50w is loud (compared to my old 35w that is in the VL). However - I am not yet liking the smaller dial called "Rotary Commander" - it is sort a like those "old nipples" mice on the laptops, takes a bit of getting used to! If I had the chance again I would not go for the deh3050ub as it makes adjusting settings/volume more complicated (hence they include a remote) I prefer the old button +- for volume.
I would never chose anything other than Pioneer though, that I am sure of!!!
Yeah, i know what you mean by the "Rotary Commander", first time i fitted one it took about 5 min to understand how to use it.![]()
Is it like the touch sensitive wheel on the Ipod Nano?

Nah, its different to that....its kinda like a volume knob that you turn clockwise/anticlockwise for the volume, but then it also "toggles" left/right and up/down for track changes, sound tuning etc.
Ahhhh ok, got ya now..... Now I can see how it would take a little while to get used too. especially whilst driving, skipping tracks when turning the volume up. lol

I reckon they're great. I bought 4 dehp7050bt units recently for my ute and trucks and they're awesome.Plus the bluetooth is the clearest that i've heard. Great for the $345 each that i paid.
